Eternal reviews definitely aren't great... which is rare for an MCU film in the first round of reviews for sure. Its RT is on pace for Iron Man 2..... and RT's generally drop from the initial....
This may solidify my decision to just wait for D+ again. Trailers never grabbed me really.

Oh yeah, I don't *dislike* the costumes, hell it's probably the best Clint has looked honestly. But if this is Fraction inspired (and I know you hate that run) and this is just Clint dealing with some random BS on his vacation, then I would've been fine with no costumes. I feel like "costumes" don't fit MCU Clint anyway; dude is supposed to be wearing old SHIELD tactical gear right? Function over form and all that? Doesn't seem the kind of guy to put on spandex yknow?
I would've been happy with a purple t-shirt. With the Hawkeye logo on it.
In any case this is a very, very small gripe on my part. And hey, this might be the last time you're happier with this show than I am Frontier, given our opinions on Fraction's run!
Then its you and me against the world on this one!
Pretty much. And if it's a budget issue, then they shouldn't be doing Kamala in the first place. And if they're screwing over the Pakistani-American for the straight white guy.....in a universe full of flying bricks and people who throw cgi colors around with minimal "real" difference in ability....oh man, Marvel will deserve every mean thing the internet will say about them.CGI budget and not wanting to mix with Reed is all I can think of.
Personally, I think if anything, it's an attempt to make Kamala "fit in" with Monica and Carol. Between the three of them, Kamala's powerset was always the odd one out and this new Green Lantern rip off achieves the goal of making Kamala blend in.
If the gods are good, this will be temporary; Kam will pick up some random Kree tech doodad (negabands?) for the show but towards the end get caught in some random....thing....that gives her the proper powerset going into Marvels.
As for Eternals....I'm surprised the reviews are mixed, even some bland MCU movies have gotten solid reviews. But given the people involved I wonder if maybe this film's true crime is simply not being what people expected it to be? Maybe it's actually not a great movie, or maybe they made the same mistake DC did with Man of Steel, and made something audiences don't associate with the Marvel brand.

"We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another, as if we were one single tribe."

Perhaps hyping up the Oscar-winning director gave critics higher expectations for Eternals than they would normally have. Critical responses towards Marvel stuff can be pretty unpredictable and inconsistent. I still don't understand how the Ant-Man movies were met with such positive reception.
Incredible Hulk was a solid movie. I think Norton was excellent in it and much better than Ruffalo and wish him and Marvel could have worked it out.
I really don't have high hopes for Eternals. Them and Inhumans are properties that work better attached to something else like FF or Avengers. Just my $0.02 worth...but I don't think they really stand on their own.
... people don't have pop up blockers still?
Honestly, I think people going into comic book movies want to have fun with it, and if it is coherent and fun, it automatically gets a positive review.
When you start trying to go "deeper" with it, it starts to get looked at more critically.

The first Ant-Man was a dark horse compared to Age of Ultron, which ultimately didn't live up to its hype. AMaTW, I got nothin. I liked it, but I got nothin. I remember it being billed as the MCU's rom-com somewhere. I remember people hyping up the 03' Hulk movie, with Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly, because Ang Lee directed it, but it was kind of artsy and weird, like what people have been saying about Eternals.
I think they could stand on their own, but they're Marvel's most sci-fi/fantasy property as opposed to a beat'em/action type team. For one thing, they aren't teams, they're a few members of their species that go against a greater evil and have run ins with their creators.
Despite this, they're species mixed more with the greater Marvel Universe, like Starfox, Sersi, Thanos, Crystal, and Ms. Marvel.
Audiences didn't care for comic movies as they were, so that's why Marvel found success in making them comedies because anyone can laugh and have fun. If they get too serious, it has to be a Batman movie. Other serious comic book movies are forgettable.
