That's just the standard for animation, isn't it?

Yeah, I wasn't expecting hour-long episodes for a What If show.

The film that comes out when nobody is avoiding crowds because of a pandemic. And it's going to take a while for people's routines to get back to normal even after the virus is under control and contained. We're creeping up on two years of this; stay-at-home habits have been formed that'll take a bite out of the box office for quite some time.

But I don't think this actually matters if you want a metric for how popular the MCU remains post-Endgame. The socio-economic landscape is totally different and cash comparisons are moot. You shouldn't be looking at dollar amounts, you should be looking at rankings. Most popular thing tends to be number 1. And as far as I know, all the streaming shows topped the charts and Widow set pandemic-era records for opening weekend (despite the same-day streaming release, which a whole lot of us took advantage of). Seems like Marvel is still the king of the entertainment mountain.

It’s animation. It costs more/takes longer to make.

And Hailee Steinfeld was starring on an Apple TV show when she got cast as Kate Bishop for Disney+. There are ways to make it work. Actors can do more than one thing. Not saying this is what's gonna happen to Mike Colter, but it's not IMPOSSIBLE that he could return as Luke Cage IF this is something that he and the studio want.

I mean... is anyone really surprised at this point? Agent Carter was THE one show that had the biggest chance of being MCU canon, and the fact that Marvel is deliberately choosing to leave that out from MCU related content speaks volumes about how they see the Marvel TV content.

Even though they kept Edwin Jarvis in Endgame

MCU: Agent Carter is not canon.

I wonder if "not canon" can just mean a personal retelling of canon, with some details not accurate.

A Disney+ Legends episode not using footage from a ABC show shouldn't surprise anyone. Given that ABC is its own company Marvel might not be able to use that footage, even if they wanted to (Marvel and ABC both being owned by Disney only gets you so far). Just like you won't find Incredible Hulk or the two Spidey films on D+. Those films are obviously MCU canon, but because they're tied up with other companies you don't see it on the streaming service.

Agent Carter might easily be the same kind of thing.

The Endgame writers reportedly took Agent Carter into account when deciding when Steve would go back to her. This is also the only show, I'm told, that gives Fiege a producer's credit. I think that indicates the show is canon but it's far from an official statement.

The Endgame-Jarvis thing is kinda a non-starter. Maybe Agent Carter was a variant timeline where that Jarvis just looked like the sacred timeline/Endgame version (but if so, where was the TVA?). We saw with Loki that not all variants look different, so having the same actor reprise his role in Endgame isn't 100% confirmation of anything....but it sure as hell makes it look like the same continuity.

The show is in a vague place where nothing outright says it's not canon, but nothing outright says it is either. In this, I apply Occam's razor; the simplest solution is usually correct. And Carter being canon and not a variant timeline that the TVA didn't erase is the simplest solution.

I think there's circumstantial evidence to support Carter's inclusion in canon too. On top of the stuff with Fiege and the Endgame writers, Marvel is obviously leaning a lot on What If's Captain Carter, with rumors of appearances beyond the show, and if they want Atwell to keep playing the character letting her show be canon is a nice (possible) incentive. Plus, Marvel is very aware of representation and is pushing hard for more diversity these days (about damn time) and being able to point at Peggy's show and say "that's part of the MCU" is good for the optics.

It's all nebulous right now and I think you could say Agent Carter is or isn't canon and nothing really proves it either way. But I think the argument that it's not canon, based on nothing but a lack of explicit reference in the films, is a pretty weak argument. That's adding hoops to jump through, just so you can exclude a show that was set so far back in the past it doesn't have any real relevance anyway.

I thought it was because she was a hedonistic hero, but it doesn't seem like they're going in that direction. I hope she's still fun and sassy though.

How will they differentiate her powers from Mantis?

I kind of wonder who they kill off considering most of the team have already "died" at this point other than Rocket.

Sharon being in it does not make me more excited for Moon Knight because it'll probably be the Power Broker instead of Sharon Carter.

Idk how much they'll need to differentiate Sersi from Mantis. The MCU doesn't have a lot of telepaths anyway, not next to all the super strong and flying and energy beams heroes.
