Diana was strong and very independent even with being with Clark during new52. Charles Soule showed exactly that with seamlessly weaving their worlds and showing the growth and balance with the two. New52 Wonder Woman even with the controversy of the Amazons etc., was still very much successful and on par with Perez being the top reading recommendation.

With the success of her movie and the influence she has made over the years, Wonder Woman should be more respected. Rebirth was suppose to give her just that bringing back her classic supporting cast but yet, it seems she is still getting the short end of the stick. So being with Clark has nothing to do with that. It’s up to writers and editors to put more effort and give the respect she deserve no matter what her relationship status is.

She was always second best next to him. Writers nerf her on purpose, even aquaman and others get to do more in the jl book. So being next to bm or sm is going to be even worse as usual. She is just there. Even after the big hit she had in 2017. They still don't respect her verse, characters and status as a powerhouse.

New52 Diana was his equal. She was a powerful Demi-Goddess that didn’t have a weakness. She took on two Kryptonians at once, she was going to teach and train Superman being strategically stronger and the better fighter. She took on the mantle as Goddess of War to try to change war and bring peace. Her new52 supporting cast, as said, although controversial, was still interesting. There was much to build off of. Things didn’t start really going south until the transition to rebirth in which she went through retcons yet again and she was depowered, losing everything again. In the latest arc of rebirth Justice League it was suppose to be Aquaman/Wonder Woman arc...it was more about Aquaman. That’s not the fault of Superman.

New52 had a better showing of her in battle than she has been in Rebirth. That’s just that. She was an equal. And not all the time is it about power, or strength. It was her characterization as well. New52 Diana was strong willed, confident, she knew who she was within herself despite the messiness between the Amazons and Gods. She didn’t have a mental break down as rebirth WW did.
They nerfed her in Rebirth not new52. So again it’s not Superman’s nor her relationship with him fault.

She was his equal in Soule's SM/WW, not because they where depicted with equal powers or something. Superman is still more powerful and have a more variety of powers than Diana, but she make up with her skills and other quality that make her an "equal" to him.
