Well Diana wore a bracelet around her arms. And the name would be a arm band. There has there are many different lengths of arm bands

It makes their biceps look bigger. And some ladies just like shiny, sparkly accessories.

Some artists think armlets are shorthand for "exotic" so ever since DC has wanted to depict Wonder Woman as a quasi-multicultural badass warrior they've been prevalent, mostly post Flashpoint.

Same reason Wolverine sometimes wears a cowboy hat: they like the look of it.

Barbarian warriors have a thing for them, i guess, 'cause Conan depicted wearing a biceps bracelet most of the time as well.

    Yep.

Or of you prefer the meta answer, the same reason Batman runs around in a cape completely impractical for acrobatics - rule of cool.
If ten years of recording The Young and the Restless for my mother have taught me anything, it's that characters in serial dramas are always happily in love...until they're not

I always thought it would either designate military rank (like on today's uniforms), or be a kind of military decoration. E.g. in ancient Rome, the soldier who first climbed the wall of an enemy town was awarded a crown called 'corona muralis'. The Romans didn't have kings (at least during the Republic), so nobody wore a crown except decorated soldiers. In a monarchy like Themiscyra, a crown is inappropriate, so decorations would take other forms.

In my headcanon, it's today's version of the 90s-era belt pouches (and thigh pouches). Artistic (such as it is) license.
