This was a pretty solid special overall. Mairghread Scott starts her work on this series by developing a little plot-point from King's terrible "Joker in the Church" story and actually creates a pretty realistic take about Barbara can't save everyone and she has to live with that. The set-up for Scott's run was also handled adequately.
Bennett delivers a kinda average story about Babs and Dick's romance which is pretty much what I expect from her these days. My favorite segment was Dini's story, he brings his classic Animated Series style in a tale that is both cartoony and compelling at the same time. Good team of pencillers as well. Quite enjoyable.
Pretty good start to a run. I hope she keeps the momentum because this was a refreshing change of tone.
Also, I'm not gonna lie, that Dickbabs moment is probably the highlight of the issue and actually was probably one of their best scenes in years.Felt so much depth from that one scene so I hope they continue it that way.
Anyways I hope Dan Panosian stays on Batgirl or does it again. His art is really nice and it would suit the new era they appear to be striving for.
This was a fun issue. Liked how they addressed the fall out of Joker's actions in the church and the wedding.
Agreed. I thought Babs struggling with the fleeting nature of life, and the Sisyphean nature of superhero work was really good, and tying it to Batman #48-49 makes it really coherent as a universe (I'm a big fan of the way the Bensons often did that in Batgirl and the Birds of Prey, as well). I hope we see a Batgirl who carves out her own place in the Batfamily now, rather than being pretty isolated from them as Burnside has tended to be (though it doesn't have to be - I did like the general idea of what Larson tried to do with Dick and Babs, I didn't think it was very well executed.)
