Arguably from the first appearance is when he become Bat's greatest enemy. He was the one of the original recurring costumed villains and the original Red Hood story cemented their history together. Denny O'Neil did a lot of tidying up in the 70's to stop him being a goofy clown which was left over from the Adam West show and into a real threat which is arguably where the modern take of him being his archenemies comes from, plus he has some major stories/victories like A Death in the Family.
The BTAS ones I don't remember him doing any different than other villains but I think it's because it's been so long. The Batman Beyond one I only watched recently, so yeah, that's a good one.

The Golden Age first appearance was the last Joker story I read and it holds up surprisingly well. I really like that story. In there he's also a good hand to hand combatant equal to Batman and his performance as a villain stands out. At the time though, it was only his first appearance. An archnemesis for me is built over time, so I didn't count that.

I guess I don't really remember them because the memory of Joker not being all that different from other villains in the 60s tv series and Burton movies was the longest memory I have of him. My image of Joker as chaos to Batman's order and a killer who has hurt so many of his friends was a recent point of view so it hasn't stuck as long as my childhood image regardless if I remember or understand it at that time.

Oh yeah, my poll answer is Joker.

    Although some would argue....

He's re invented himself as a dark creature of the night.
Even if he wanted can he ever let that go?

I'm going to go ahead and say The Joker. He's probably one of the few people to ever get inside Batman's head. Plus he has quite a few victories against the caped crusader. Though one could also argue Batman is his own worst enemy at times.

I went with Bane in terms of actual meaningful victories against the Bat. You could argue that that Joker did more damage killing Jason and crippling Babs, but screwing up the cave and breaking the Bat is the biggest blow to Bruce directly. The whole Knightfall era, over a year of change and chaos to not only Bruce but the whole Bat-family was caused by Bane. No other villain has done something this big to Batman.

The thing that pissed me off was when it was first announced that Batman was marrying Catwoman was Tom King said that every story ends with Batman being sad so he wanted
to do a story where Batman is happy because no one has tried that before. So instead of showing Batman as a happily married man, what do we get? A sad Batman. Just like in
every other story. Wow, some change. King should have at least gone through with the marriage and let that go on for a few issues and then maybe later on find a reason they
    couldn't be together anymore.
