    Ask and you shall receive.
Okay. That's not.. anything anyone has been saying about this stuff. The Shrike escorting someone through a portal is the Shrike literally moving someone through space/time/whatever by taking them through a portal. He had to actually take him through the portal. Kassad actually walked through it. The book straight up says it took him into it. Which was itself, a portal, not "the Shrike thinks and you are now in the big bang." Those are the words of the thing you have posted up.

That the Shrike was gone once he emerged doesn't really change any of that. That would be the equivalent of the Flash himself taking someone personally into the speed force. That's leaving the field.

So, to re-ask. Has the Shrike ever farcasted anyone without in some way going with them, without being on the ship being farcasted, without being in their face, without the use of portals people have to actually walk through, or the like.

The 4 set bundle is called the Hyperion Cantos. Amazon, kindle etc can get you them. It's hard core Space Opera and the Shrike isnt actually on screen much. Fair warning!

Edit: it's absolutely one of my favorite sci fi stories, but not even because of the Shrike. He's just the only good thing to take for Rumbles.

It's one of my favorite for a lot of reasons, but a lot of the concepts it explores are to do with human connection, meaning and the idea of immortality and the spirit.
    Ah..ok. Thanks.

Been catching up on a lot of sci-fi reading lately, the more books the merrier.

One note to make: the Deathwand doesn't physically attack the brain at all. It's explicitly described as a sort of soul rip attack that effectively severs the connection of a brain and body from the spirit and consciousness.

Spent the last 7 days at a music festival, and wasn't in any sort of connection.

At this point, I have no huge vested interest in who wins the Rumble. I am more concerned with just figuring out the truth myself so we may debate with this character in future rumbles without problems. As such, thanks for your patience as I have been slow reading the books again to search for more examples of the Shrike far casting.

He has one more example of generating a portal and shoving father Dure through it within one of the Labyrinths where the Cruciforms are. Like explicitly stated where he did not cross the threshold of said portal himself, but instead pushed Dure through what was essentially an open door.

As for it being a portal or just a spatial teleport... *shrugs* Sometimes it's one. Sometimes the other. Casting the spaceship here and there required no portals. He teleports himself around without making portals. It really depends. He made no portals when he and Kassad jumped to the future in the instance of them fighting without physical contact.

But no, to answer your quoted paragraph: No, not really unless you think the Dure feat amounts to much.

Maybe he needs to make portals to send people without going himself but doesn't need to make portals to send himself with other people?

It could be an explanation, but it's really open to interpretation if that's not a specific restriction mentioned anywhere.
