So its two brainwashings, and two mind wipes and one blackmail, huh ?. And people still wonders why the X-men is such group of screw ups.

I never really realized how much of an ass Xavier was. He's almost Niles Caulder-level manipulative, except Caulder actually murdered former teammates and I can't recall Xavier ever actually killing a teammate outright (although with the tons of convoluted history the franchise has I wouldn't doubt it happened in some obscure story from long ago).

Marvel Comics Presents elaborates on the Beast mindwipe. Xavier was really horrible even after Hank protests the mind-wipe.

What were you expecting ? With Cyclops method of recruitment, nothing less than mind-wipe would have worked:

Nice thread! Puts to rest all those arguments (which we see a few times each month, it seems) that someone is tired of Marvel making Xavier "dark" and they want to go back to a time when Xavier was a saint. Except--as the op shows--Xavier was always arrogant, passive-aggressive, manipulative, and dishonest; i.e., "dark." There were some attempts to portray him as a saint in the 1990s, but the writing was so heavy-handed that it back-fired. (Example, in "Fatal Attractions" when the X-Men literally pledge their allegiance and chant Xavier's dream ritualistically, like they worship him, and it doesn't make Charlie look like a saint to the astute reader, it makes the X-Men look like a cult being controlled by a narcissistic puppet-master.)

Except Scott was 16 years old and a troubled young man, while Xavier was in his 30s (or thereabouts) with several degrees, including an M.D. with specialty in Psychiatry and a Ph.D. in Psychology. Moreover, we don't even know if Cyclops was being controlled by Xavier in the above examples; Charlie rode around in his mind nearly always back in the early days of the 05.

Edited to add: In your last example, Narasinha, Scott is trying to rescue Lilandra. And who asked him to do that?

    LOL, good thread.
    Xavier's great, but he's always been a bit of a d!ck.
Haven't seen a few of these panels/pages before though, cheers gambitxremy.

Don't panic, I am not bashing Scott. I just find hilarious how they were writing comics at that time
Eh, at least he didn't handled Matthew in the same way lol.
