Between his DC's Cyborg and his Marvel's Nighthawk and Occupy Avengers, and his current Lion Forge's Superb (love Superb!), I've become quite smitten with the author.
I'd say definitely give
Super Justice Force: The Adventures of Darius Logan prose a try.
No, my library system
did not have it. That was the problem, and that's what led me to use the Inter-library Loan feature (that I saw in passing but never really thought much about) for the first time.
It was after you mentioned it, in passing, as a prose fiction of David Walker's. I checked it out late last year, and even read a few chapters he had up (they're gone now
). I had the mind to read it again recently, so I looked for it, and it wasn't in my Library System's database. That's when I thought try the Inter-library loan. It worked (I think it came from Washington State? Or one that started with O? Or an M? Can't remember.)
As you may have guessed I loved the book! It's meant to continue in the next installment and leaves off like you expect a part 1 to do. I would like to email David Walker and sing his praises and ask/beg for book 2 at some point.
I would say Darius' character is a lot more 'shell-shocked veteran' than either Rayshaun or Virgil. He was
very introverted, and not necessarily of the healthy, functioning variety like Miles is meant to be.
In fact,
and this is a real spoiler, end of book spoiler, so do not read it if you want to read the book for yourself or need to finish it first and honestly intend to,
spoilers:
he still suffers from it by the end of the first book, but by that point, he comes to realize that he doesn't want to suffer from suicidal loneliness and solitude, even though he is now at eminent risk of doing so if he doesn't make a serious effort to change from that point going forward. |
end of spoilers
It is like viewing the Avengers or the Justice League from an inside perspective though. It's quite cool and also very poignant at the same time.
I'll look into Number 13. Not sure if it'll truly be to my fancy, but I won't know 'til I give it look-see.
