So Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless discussed the whole Vontae Davis situation where he basically retired comically at halftime of a football game and refusing to play the 2nd half this past week. Anyhow Sharpe claims every athlete hits that moment , that wall where their body and mind realize they just don't wanna do it anymore. From eating right , to training to stay in that shape etc.
But as Sharpe contends for NFL players its guys who have been in the league 10-12-14 seasons and they just decide in training camp to retire. Or back when camp was harder and they'd retire then. But he's never ever seen a Davis situation where a guy at halftime of a game decides to retire comically. That was pretty crazy to hear about.
Skip Bayless ran down that Davis got paid a big paycheck from Indy awhile (he made like $50 million in his career) and he suffered a groin injury last season. So he had surgery which ticked off the Colts who cut him at the end of the year. So now Davis has a situation where he's clearly at home and he gets a call from Buffalo who give him a $2-3 million guaranteed contract to come back for a season.
Davis is injured but money is money of course. So he signs and doesn't take part in OTA's due to recovering from surgery. He doesn't even do training camp ! In fact he barely saw any action in preseason and wasn't supposed to start week #1. But injuries to others had the Bills start him and this past week Mike Williams exposed just how bad of shape Davis was in.
Also its pretty much a bet as both claim , Buffalo is coming for the money they gave Davis . He didn't play or perform like he was supposed to ...so he's not gonna be making that money.

Pretty much every ex NFL player on ESPN were visibly furious over it saying if he had even waited till the end of the game it'd have been fine, but to basically slink away at half time with his team mates only finding out because of his social media post was one of the worst pieces of sportsmanship they'd ever seen
They didn't sign Mack because Gruden's ego couldn't deal with him. Mack is one of the coolest dudes out there and has mad skills, but he decided to stand up to the (Gruden) man.
Way I look at it, its not like Davis was going to make any difference in that game. But yah, most owners wouldn't even hire him as a janitor now.

Every day is a gift, not a given right.
Unfortunately, the Raiders was put inbetween a rock and a hard place.
They could pay Mack and Carr. No NFL team has two $20 million man on their roster.
They didn’t have the cap space.
We so often forget, the NFL is just not about football, it’s a business
A business that out to make a profit, if that means trading your best player, then so be it.
Mack’s trade was a business decision that we help the team in the future.

Its kinda clear Gruden did not value Khali Mack as a player to that degree. The guy didn't get an offer or sit down with the GM to discuss his contract since that February and they spent months twirling their heels. The LA Rams just paid out massive cash to Gurley , Donald and Cooks this off-season. They have guaranteed over $140-150 million in that span over the next few seasons.
The Raiders could have paid Carr and Mack. Their 2 key cornerstones that type of money. Instead they decided ehhh...that is too much for us. Gruden led that charge really and his spin now "Mack didn't really wanna be here..." is like someone struggling to admit he is the guy who pushed him out the door. I won't be shocked that once McKenzie is gone as GM he doesn't reveal he lost whatever say he had in personal decisions.
Also unlike an Alex Smith situation where there was someone waiting in the wings to take that job (like Mahomes was) , Oakland didn't have that. They clearly didn't have a player waiting to take Mack's place. I could see if the Raiders had a DE that they knew was a talent and said , well we have this guy...he's gonna be cheaper and its his time. So lets trade that guy away. Plus we can save the cap hit.

My predictions for Week 3
Browns over Jets- Browns finally win
Falcons over Saints
Chiefs over 49ers
Raiders over Dolphins- Raiders must win or their season is lost
Vikings over Bills- Bills go 0-3
Eagles over Colts
Packers over Redskins- Packers are contenders and Redskins are not
Panthers over Bengals
Jaguars over Titans
Ravens over Broncos
Texans over Giants- Texans save their season and Giants go 0-3
Rams over Chargers
Bears over Cardinals
Seahawks over Cowboys
Patriots over Lions
Steelers over Buccaneers
Building for the future is one thing, but the Raiders really need to fix their offense as well. They have Carr, who has the potential for great things. But they have a very predictable and restrictive offensive scheme right now that is ill-suited to him. Part of it is O-Line but hey, you've got to adjust things a bit more creatively. Just not sure Gruden's coaching team can do what is needed
They are playing the Dolphins this Sunday, who have about the same level of defense as the Mack-less Raiders right now so its really a matchup of offenses - and the Dolphins are really much better right now.
Every day is a gift, not a given right.
The Raiders have high draft picks and cap space to fix these problem.
Right now, this team sucks, but they have the opportunity to make it better.
What people are missing, the Raiders sucked with Mack.
We need more than just one good player, the trade opened up opportunities to get better in the future.
The media making a big deal out of these "new" Brady/Belichick stories is so stupid. So what if Brady pondered leaving? He didn't. Its over. Talk more about the Week 3 games instead of manufactured drama.
The "Steelers Implosion Watch" annoys me too but its more current, not to mention its their diva players who fuel it in social media so I can't blame the media on that one.
