Default The reason the 90's X-Men theme is so good

An interesting video of the 90's theme song that breaks it down and explains why it's such a great theme. It includes snippets of an interview with composer Ron Wasserman who's anecdotes about piecing together the theme, how it was actually made and the studio "suggestions" regarding the music are entertaining.

It was powerful but for me the real reason I found it so good was because it showed how high the stakes where and these characters were living in a complex world, where good and evil are not so easily defined. Cool to get all that from a guitar riff with no dialogue.

It's basically introducing heavy metal to kids

Same as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers original theme (composed by same person)
Forget the old ways - Krakoa is god.

Uh... You're probably going to behead me, but I always found it kind of tacky, a bit embarrasing to listen. As if they wanted to compose something dramatic but they fell by the wayside instead.

This is generally how I feel about Wasserman's work now that I've gotten older. There's iconicism to the X-Men theme and to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers theme and they did well to etch the shows in kids' memories or get them hyped up whenever these shows aired. His composition is kind of bland and depthless and has often been improved upon by, in the instance of Power Rangers at least, better composers - compare the MMPR theme with the one for Power Rangers Zeo.
