    Default Favorite DC mentor relationship

I think my favorite part of dc comics is its history and relationships between characters, so I wanted to do a poll and I guess discussion on peoples favorite mentor relationship. Basically heroes training other heroes and the friendships/respect that they develop through training and such.

For me my favorite will always be Wildcat training Batman to fight. I like it because Batman is generally treated/depicted as this ultimate fighter, someone who has planned for everything and even though he is a mortal man is still someone not to be trifled with. But there is something I like about the idea that at one point Bruce before he was Batman had no idea what he was doing, so he approached a golden age hero/boxer to help train him how to fight. That to me establishes what I like about DC history, there was a golden age that came before the modern age and they helped inspire and train the heroes that we know today and nothing says that more to me then the training of Batman.

Anyway like I said feel free to vote and describe in a post who you like.

edit: Meant to have an other option on the poll, my bad. Just write in the comments if there is a relationship you like outside of what I listed.

I had to go with the longest and most famous one of them all by far.

Of those listed, Batman/Robin is my favorite by far so voted that.

WW/Wonder Girl is prob. my least favorite in that Diana’s never really done much in this dept.

If there were an “other” choice, I’d choose that.
Max Mercury/Impulse is on no one’s radar, but it was a solid relationship and was the driving force behind Impulse’s first ongoing series. Max was actively shown teaching and Impulse learning.

I would've put down Barry and Wally if they were an option.

That is fair, like I said I messed up the poll. I pressed the button by mistake instead of clicking on the next row and so lost some of the options. So if you want Barry and Wally then Barry and Wally it is.

Definitely not the most defining hero and mentor relationship but I was fond of Aquaman’s relationship with Kaldur in brightest day and I think Orlando did a good job with Aquaman/Garth in his deep dives issue

I'm torn between Dick and Bruce, and Wally and Barry. Both sidekicks have done a LOT of growing up and the influence, both good and bad, of their mentors was evident. Both have moved on from sidekick roles (mostly), but there are difference in that Wally took his mentor's mantle while Dick forged his own identity. Both of them have done some of what the other has done, but it's clear the way they've found works for them.

For those seeking a more satirical version, I recommend Rick Veitch's Brat Pack. It is quite different than what DC has let you know about.

I can't wait to see these two back together.

Agreed. With a caveat that I speak of Batman before 1990;before he became so messed up.

I'd also nominate out-of-the-box candidates. JSA's Flash, GL and Wildcat. YJ Toon's Nightwing.

I voted for Alan and Kyle.
Jay and Wally didn't really have a mentor thing going.

The only one I've actually read is Bruce and Dick. Golden-Silver Age though, not Dark Age.

Yeah, definitely more pre-1990 than later, which gives us a half century right there.

Max Mercury and Impulse is among my favorites for sure.

Bruce and Dick, Bruce and Tim will always have a special place in my heart.

Dick and Damian, there is so much potential! I really can't understand why DC isn't pushing it as they should.

The one missing -- Barry and Wally.
