Default Does the prospect of having your brain linked directly to the internet...?

scare you or sound promising to you? A lot of scientists are talking about this as a possible future. My belief is that going by the rather flagrant abuses of trust companies like Facebook and Google have been shown to engage in, I really wouldn’t feel safe giving them access to my brain.

Can't wait for the new Coke ads to be directly spammed into my brain.

    That's peanuts.

I'd be worried about being exposed to hacks/viruses and I'm not sure I'd even trust a 'buffer computer' kinda like the cyberdecks of Shadowrun to keep that **** out.

I'm gonna have to link my brain directly to Steam.
It's the only way I'll get through my backlog.

Yes to both. It would be awesome to be able to just link up to the internet with a thought and what not. But at the same time, hackers gonna hack and viruses gonna be bad. Barring a full-proof way of doing it though, I would have to take a hard pass on it.

Yeah. "I've come down with a virus" suddenly takes on a whole new meaning.

I wonder if it would be different if it was a computer that had no connection to the Internet. Everything on it was first checked to make sure no viruses were on it and it was basically a library of information but only what the computer could hold or with the ability to load things that were checked and checked and checked and were on other computers that themselves had no Internet connection and then transferred by disc. In other words, an older concept of a computer as an electronic library. I wonder if people would then be interested in doing it if the Internet aspect was completely removed.

I really cannot wait for the singularity.

But frankly, I'm not a very connected person and don't seek to be more connected.

I imagine some people would opt for the experience. The idea of being linked directly to a search-engine that could retrieve any information I need almost instantly has a certain appeal. Although we have that (pretty much) now with our smart phones, the difference being, when we look things up now we don't have the option of downloading it to permanent, actual memory.

It could be a way for people with early symptoms of Alzheimer's to back up some of their memories ahead of time.

Some extremely lonely people may choose to link together in a sort of hive mind. How that would effect society is anyone's guess.

Others may choose to rent part of their thought processes out for data processing while they sleep as an additional income stream.

Please make sure it's unplugged before trying anything.

Oh, screw that! If people had to connect through some kind of brain interface to use the internet, then Comcast would find a way to charge more. God, I hate them.
