Default What was the first collected edition you ever bought?

After being away from comics for 30+ years I got back into it 5 years ago or so. They didn’t have tpb’s or omni’s in the 80’s so when I went to my LCS I did a blind buy by acting just like a kid and going for the cover I thought was the coolest. My choice??? Final Crisis..... what an absolutely terrible choice. I’ve learned a lot since then, and will re-read it if my Morrison Omni ever gets here from IST....

My first purchase was the JLI Omnibus. What a wonderful choice!

I haven’t read any JLI. I’ll add it to my list!

It was either the Killing Joke or Dark knight Returns around 10 years ago. I didn’t buy anymore until a few years ago and got he Daredevil Miller omnibus. I had no idea what that purchase would lead to.

Iron Man: Armor Wars. Bought it off the shelf in 1990 when it was released

Most probably this back in the 1980s:

However, when I got back into comics after a 25 year+ hiatus, it was the Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol. 1

I never envisioned just how much this hobby would drag you in. I need new bookcases. My omnis long ago spread out from their initial case.

Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus. Loved the hell out of it too! (left comics in 1996, came back and the first thing I read is 20+ years older than what I had been reading originally >_<)

Mine was Brubaker Cap omni (the first one). I saw it at a Books-A-Million while on family vacation, didn't even though those big books existed! I couldn't pull the trigger while on vacation - we were spending way too much money anyways ;-)

But like a month later, I ordered it off Amazon, I think, it was still new and for regular prices way back then. Never looked back :-)

The TPB for "A Death in the Family" back when I was in middle school (Which was when the storyline came out).

I don't think I bought another collected book until around 10-12 years ago, but I can't remember what it would have been......Maybe Watchmen.

I've been collecting like a madman since then. I'm one of those weirdos who will buy single issues, and if I like the story enough I'll buy the TPB or HC (Or, hopefully, Absolute or omnibus).

Mine was Son of Origins circa 1975 or '76. Second was the Tempo Books paperback sized reprints of World's Finest...

bought at a Scholastic Book Fair at my school circa 1978.

The first "modern" collected edition I got was the Warner Books collection of Dark Knight Returns when it was first released in the mid to late 80s soon after the mini was completed. I picked up the first several volumes of the Marvel Masterworks as they were released soon after as well, so I was a bit of an "early adopter" for collected editions of material though it never stopped me from buying singles as they came out either.
