At the time I didn't think I'd be able to get all the individual issues because I was young and lived in a small town. I ordered them from a comic book store catalog that I saw somewhere.

I remember exactly it was in 1990 and I walked into a Waldenbooks store which had a display rack of graphic novels and I picked up The Dark Knight Returns which at a whopping $12.95 to a 14 year old was pretty pricey and that soon followed with Batman Year One. After 28 years I still have those same books in decent condition.

This was either my first or second TPB purchase (the other was "Death of Superman").

I still have both (first prints) in a box somewhere...

My first collected edition was Marvel Masterworks vol.7
I was more of a single issue reader, but one day I had to go
to the city for something and as I was making my way home through
the towers for the Subway beneath, I noticed a book store and
decided to take a quick look.

Death of Superman was probably my third. I know The Dark Knight Returns was my second one. I was visiting Canada for the summer and they had the tpb available for sale at the movie theater when the first Tim Burton Batman film was out.

I still have "A Death in the Family" and "Death of Superman" in one of my boxes, also. Dark Knight Returns I no longer have, can't remember what I did with it.

I'm pretty sure it was this.
I was at acomic market thing (it was 2004 and I was still living in Hungary where the biggest comic book event at the time was this twice a year comic book market where a buncha people went just to sell and buy comics on a Sunday in a school. On school tables. The Hungarian comcivook scene is pretty sad.)
I didn't even know tpbs existed cause I didn't even have internet at the time or an lcs. But I loved the cartoon series and this trade seemed like a good deal. I think I've lent it to my sister at one point who managed to loose it -_-

I think mine was the collected edition of X-cutioners song, which is apt as the first single issue I bought was the X-cutioners song epilogue issue.

Dunno if it was a special Marvel Edition of Pocket Comic Books in Portuguese of the second part of the first Thanos Saga (The Thanos story that crossover with Warlock,Avengers Annual and Marvel Two in One Annual) or a Hardcover of the Kraven Last Hunt,i can´t remember which collected edition i got first.
But it was one of these two.

Either the 1976 Fireside edition of Marvel's Bring On the Bad Guys or DC Blue Ribbon Digest #6 featuring Superman DC_brd_6.jpg.
