The Apocalypse War, volumes 1 & 2, must have been mid 80’s.
    It’s the Judge Dredd epic.

I'm pretty sure Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns were my first two, back when (or shortly after) they came out*. I can't remember which was first, though. I might have even got them both together.

Edit: No, it would have to have been 1988 at the earliest. We didn't have a comic shop in town before that.

Probably Death of Superman, but the 90s are hazy. Might have been A Lonely Place of Dying, Robin: A Hero Reborn, or Sword of Azrael.

Same. Sure I bought a few trades earlier, but this was my first true collected edition. Still sits proudly on my shelf.

The spanish edition from Absolute Watchmen - it was the last day from a trip, I had lots of baggages and bought the biggest book from the store haha but it was worthy, I had read before Watchmen with poor Internet scans. To me it felt like seeing a movie on a crappy BW tv to a full IMAX cinema.

5 years ago, on a crappy February day, I walked into a Chapters (Canadian equivalent of Barns and Noble) with the hellbent determination of rekindling my passion for graphic novels/comics/manga. Up until that point I hadn't read anything for several years, maybe not since 2010 or 2011. Chapters didn't leave me with my options: X-men, manga, and a few other random comics. I just wanted to immerse in something worthwhile. I grabbed the only thing that really suck out--Saga volume 1. I read the first 3 pages, laughed, skimmed the rest of the book, and was sold. To this day I still follow the series, and I patiently await book 3(I switched to deluxes).

I used to live in the town Russ Cochran lives in. His daughter was my next door neighbor's best friend.

I honestly forgot about this one! I haven't read it in ages!

I also had the Amazing Spider-man pocket book:

I read it over and over. I didn't really think of this one or the Batman one as graphic novels because of their size. Whoops!

Captain America Omnibus Vol. 1, Fantastic Four Omnibus Vol. 1, Master of Kung Fu Omnibus Vol. 1, and JLA Omnibus Vol. 1 all in the same day. I'd just "discovered" that the Omnibus format existed and dove in head first.

Oh, wait! I just remembered, as a little kid I had a pocket-sized digest of the first seven Spider-Man stories (AF 15 and ASM 1-6), and another digest of some of the Hulk stories from Tales To Astonish, so I guess those count as the first?
