Seems to be like that in lots of media now. I remember hearing from bigger fans that most anime doesn't run that long anymore. Not more huge runs like Naruto, Bleach, and One-Piece, but mini adaptations that run for around 20 episodes.
If the quality is good, great. But I do miss when stories ran a bit longer & allowed for writers to really develop characters & stories. Plus continuity could be better for those characters because (hopefully) writers can keep up with their own stuff.
With all these relaunches & having characters jumping from book / writer to different book / writer every 6 months, it's damn near impossible to get lasting development because every writer seems to wanna do their own thing these days. Whatever is convenient for their story, they'll do. Never-mind the character(s) previous developments or stories. And really a huge case of editors not doing their jobs keeping writers in check. They'll just fanboy or girl over whatever a writer gives to them & not bother to check if it's appropriate or not.
