It's an interesting question. I think she would have still explored the full basics of her weather manipulation but would be no where near as skilled or as powerful as she has become under Xavier's training. Her life as a hero and X-Man has pushed her powers in ways I would not see her needing to do so if she remained in Africa. I think if she remained in Kenya her pursuits would still be heroic and a major figure in the world. Probably similar to what HoM Storm did for Kenya (which was a great thing).

Wow! This is really beautiful!
This is beautiful as well.
Hmmm... I kinda don't like Valkyrie because of the PIS but for as long as Stormborn and female Thor having the main focus, I'll be fine with her inclusion.
Throg is so lucky. :-)
Thank you for the info.
Anyway, I hope our fellow Storm fans will be back soon.
Said's book was one of the things that opened my eyes to Storm's orientalist creation. In the book's introduction the anecdote of the Egyptian courtesan parallel's Storm's character creation. For years I've watched real African women on the news, speaking for themselves, and strive for themselves on issues that Marvel doesn't relate to African lives. Instead, they continue to use Storm to re-address Africa in their Western-minded views.
However, I disagree with trying to retcon Storm's relationship with the African tribes that worshipped her. It wasn't clearly established which tribe they were and it's pointless to re-write them as being one of the actual groups in the Serengeti. This is comic book fiction and it works just as well if they are a fabrication with no basis whatsoever. I was one of those fans who wondered which group it could have been but it doesn't do them any credit. That's why it's better the Age of Ultron didn't identify which African city suffered the Hulk attack. Hollywood shouldn't have to drag a real African metropolis into that kind of spotlight. They have problems of their own.
Sorry I had to do it
