I had the same thought too, but this is supposed to be an X-Men cover. Remember, the same person who created Jean's Green and Gold Phoenix costume was the same person who created Carol's Black one. Dave Cockrum. Also, Jean's outfit was a full body suit with a gold sash like the one on this cover.

Baby, Hudlin set the tone. And it's now firmly out there in the zeitgeist. There are a whole lot of blacks that are now aware that Storm and T'Challa are a thing and she's his queen. Things are gonna fully get in gear when Coates' Storm has had some time to marinate in the MU. I don't doubt that we'll get crossover events between CA, BP & Storm. I need Yana Harvey on a Storm-led X-book.

I went and took the liberty in going back and reading all the issues of X-Men Gold. Just to see HOW MANY TIMES our beloved X-Men Gold Characters have been
A. Sleep B. KO’ed for reason unknown C. legitimately knocked Out.
Out of 22 issues of X-Men Gold the numbers next to a character is how many times they were seen as mentioned in the Letters Above.
