I actually don't think it is too early for you to make your assessment. Taylor has made it a mission to show people how powerful Jean can be without the Phoenix Force but this should not come at the expense of the other powerhouses. What's the point of having her assemble a team of herors if at each obstacle one character is shown as solving them all? I'm just over it. I was hoping that red would be different in that it wouldn't be another solo book disguised as a team book but this appears to be gold all over again. I will definitely take a hard pass on this.

I warned everybody ahead of time about Storm and Jean being on the same team in X-Men Red. I knew this crap was going to happen.

@Everyone: This whole "exploring how powerful Jean is" has been done to death. We saw it in the late 90s in the Kelly/Seagle run. We saw it in Revolution, which came afterwards, when Claremont added Psylocke's TP to Jean's AFTER the boost she got in the Kelly/Seagle run. Taylor is just doing the same old theme again about "exploring how powerful Jean is" which has been done to death. This time, he is telling a lie about Jean holding herself back when she has the Phoenix Force to try and introduce this concept as a new idea. It's all an excuse to justify writing Storm down.

For good or bad, Red is essentially Jean Grey's book. She is the central character. Gold was pretty much Kitty's book. I agree that Storm needs more focus. She is one of the best characters, yet some writers tend to sideline her. I've always preferred Storm as a leader. She is too powerful, in mutant ability and personality, to be a follower. Although, I do like Jean being an Xavier type visionary leader.

Besides the above scan, Storm also created air/pressure force fields during the original Gold Team era such as the Into the Void storyline. When I saw the Red scans, I immediately thought Storm didn't need saving by Jean's TK bubble. Storm clearly has some control over water as she can control evaporation, condensation, precipitation, etc. In an early Uncanny issue, Storm is trapped underwater and thinks that she should be able to control water, but it is a heavier medium than air. The suggestion was that it is harder to control water than air and she simply hadn't learned how yet.

Additionally, I've long disliked the over reliance on Jean's TK bubble. Some writers (especially during the 90s) had her use it way too much just as some writers over rely on Storm's lightning bolts. At least lightning is a better go-to move than a pink bubble.

I agree with your post. Also, let's remember that Storm and Wolverine were the central characters of Claremont's run in the 80s from Storm's punk days till he left the book, yet the other characters still had stuff to do.

you're also comparing 6 issues to over 100 there. Of course there's alot more variety in terms of juggling to be found in a multi-year run as opposed to one that just hit the half year mark

Compare any of Claremont's six issues and you will find that they balance the cast far better than what we see in modern comics.

Thanks. I'm definitely gonna redo it. Looking at it now, I see some changes I would make to it. And as far as the shoes, I wanted to play up on a different silhouette. Often times people forget she's a fighter too, and is not beyond cutting a bitch. Lol
