But little detail aside, that's a ridiculous name.

You don't name your kid like you would name your character on World or Warcraft. (ob1the1ringdeathkiller)
It's Captain Kirk's middle name. Also the Magic is after the card game.

I was kinda wondering if that Magic was for the card game of for Earvin Johnson. So...star wars, star trek and magic eh?

You know, that's interesting. Is that kid going to end up hating all that nerdy stuff because of the all **** he had to go through or is that going to make him some kind of uber nerd?

I don't care about imposing culture. The problem is it's done in such a way which is going to see the poor kid ripped to shreds at school.

Indeed. My name is Jeffrey, plain and boring as names go, but wise assed kids at school called me Jethro (after the character from Beverly Hillbillies), to this day, I don't know why. So yeah, Obi-Wan is gonna catch all kinds of grief. Chances are he'll either grow up an uber-nerd who becomes a billionaire from creating super popular videogames, or a psychopath who shoots up a school and then himself because he couldn't handle the bullying.

We named our daughter Kevie (pronounced KEHV-EEE), which is pretty tame as far as non-traditional names go, and people (whom we ignored) threw a ####ing fit about it.

My guess is the kid will go by Obi and that's about it, when he gets a drivers license or someone finds out his middle name they'll get a chuckle and maybe give him a weird look but that's about it.

Jobs might be an issue when he gets older though.

I was thinking about that too. It may be an issue to find a job with such a silly ass name on his resume.

But then again, with all the silly-ass names people have been giving their kids in the past decade (and even longer when you think about some hippie kids from the '60s/'70s), maybe "John Smith" will become the future's "silly-ass name". (And how many different spelling variations are there for "John" and "Smith"?)

Lol, they couldn't have given him the middle name of James, so he could have one 'normal' name he could use?

What kind of insufferable dweeb names their kid after a Star Wars character? That poor child.

    Could have been worst though.

Greedo Spock Heartstone Smith. (the first)

    Now that's a name.

I feel they kind of didn't go far enough. Instead of Magic they should have used Hecatomb.

My sis was all like, "Your imposing your media on the kid". I mean the very act of naming your child imposes your culture on them. That is inherit in the naming processes. My moms friend named her kid Reno, after a character from the T.V. show Renegade and the only way ANYONE remembers that show is from a bit they did on MST3K.
    Why does it bother you?

They missed an opportunity by not going with 'Exploding Kittens'.

I'd rather have a cool name like that than one of those overused, mostly-meaningless traditional names that people get stuck with.
