Default So my friends named their kid Obi-Wan.

His full name is Obi-Wan Tibberius Magic Smith. I don't feel I'm doxxing anyone by revealing their last name is Smith. I'm like the only person that dosn't think it's a big deal. My sis was all like, "Your imposing your media on the kid". I mean the very act of naming your child imposes your culture on them. That is inherit in the naming processes. My moms friend named her kid Reno, after a character from the T.V. show Renegade and the only way ANYONE remembers that show is from a bit they did on MST3K.

If we rolled the world backwards 15-20 years, life now is super weird.

Roll it forward 15-20 years? Who knows?

    Maybe it's no big deal.

I'm sure he'll be fine. It's unusual in the States but people in other parts of the world are named "Obi" it's not that weird.

You can't pull off a name like that with a last name like Smith.

If his middle name is for the emperor, then it's only one "B".

But little detail aside, that's a ridiculous name.

You don't name your kid like you would name your character on World or Warcraft. (ob1the1ringdeathkiller)

They should name children like they named 90s anti-heroes.

I suspect he is going to learn to fight from a young age. To paraphrase Shel Silverstein and Johnny Cash:

Well, he must o' thought that is quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk
It seems I had to fight my whole life through
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named
    "Obi-Wan Tibberius Magic Smith".

They are saving that one for Obi Wan's future little brother. (or sister really, Bloodmurder Deathrage works for both)

I'd rather have a cool name like that than one of those overused, mostly-meaningless traditional names that people get stuck with.

My friends named their kid Batman.

Batman [Last Name Redacted] ... because they let their oldest child (age 4 at the time) name their newest son.

He's 8 now and in counseling and on several IEPs. Smart kids but gets bullied so much it has caused psychological harm.

He's asked for a name change and they told him it would upset his now 12 year-old brother. Older Bro told them to let him change his name and asked, "Who let's a child name another child!?"

I'm not super good friends with them anymore because of how they treat their children but their kids live at our house pretty much.

That aside, did anybody's nerd sense tingle with the Star Wars/Star Trek names merged into one? They have to be kept separate!

He'll never get a job. Especially if the employer is loyal to the Empire.
