If any character deserves an Appreciation Thread in the Batman Forum (other than Batman / Bruce Wayne), it's Jim Gordon.

First appearance: Detective Comics #27 (cover-dated May 1939):

    from Who's Who Update '87 Vol.2 (September 1987)

I didn't see one using "Gordon" for a search.
Maybe there use to be one back before the Forum Purge a few years ago.

Hell, I'd like to see another mini-series with him and the GCPD where they're not just supporting Batman!

Yeah, the police needs more relevance.

Got to love Commissioner Gordon. He is the best cop in comic books hand downs.

Gordon and Bruce as friends from issue one (or better #27). Is there an earlier story about them becoming friends? Is YO the first one?

He appeared in the "Thomas Wayne was the first Batman" story, but I'm not 100% sure if that was in the original story or a retelling. And I don't think that he and Bruce met.

And in the new 52, he iirc met Bruce in the Night his parents died.

Yeah but the New52 continuity is probably borrowing from the Nolan movies and I'd really like to know where DC had them as partners or friends first and it very well could be your Thomas Wayne story.

Nolan movie was the earliest I remember that happening.
In the 80s, during the first origin of Wrath, Gordon was on the other side of Gotham and shot Wrath's parents who were robbing someone at the same time Bruce's parents were gunned down by Chill.
Year One establish Gordon as operating in Chicago, but I don't know how long or since when.
Between those and Nolan movies I don't know.

My guess is Nolan replaced Leslie Thompkins with Gordon. That' s smart and I like it. Reeves could easily bring Leslie into his continuity.
