I'll recommend BKV's Spider-Man/ Doctor Octopus: Negative Exposure, a mini set during the Lee/ Romita days in the POv of a photographer jealous of Peter Parker's good fortune. It's solid work by a guy who has a well-deserved following for his creator-owned stuff.

The idea of MARVEL KNIGHTS SPIDER-MAN #1-12 was brilliantly simple, although Marvel only did it once. The plan was to give A-list creators twelve issues to do their take on Spider-Man, and leave without any encores. The first time around Marvel had the good fortune to get Mark Millar at a time when he was practicing what he preached on shorter comic book runs, believing that if writers stuck around too long, their work would have diminishing returns. The result was essentially a distillation of everything that is good and great about the wall-crawler. Millar, Dodson and Cho reconciled the disparate aspects of the character: the geek aware he’s married to a woman outside of his league, the reckless superhero who picked fights with the Avengers, and the nice guy who will do a tremendous favor for one of his greatest villains. We also get a sense of the how brutal Spider-Man’s job is−something that has previously been more effectively conveyed by the movies−thanks to the edgier tone of the series. The story had some new revelations about one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies, and a change in Venom that has come to define that villain.

Ultimate Spider-Man Volume 1 by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley is an excellent 21st Century retelling of Spider-Man's origin, that serves as an accessible startpoint to the Ultimate Spider-Man saga.

I fully agree with your take on Marvel Knights Spider-Man, having greatly enjoyed that saga myself and for many of the same reasons.

If you want 90s and onward, I would recommend Spider-Man: Identity Crisis, which collected the period across four ongoing Spider-Man comics when Peter had to assume four different superhero identities --- with help from his then-wife Mary Jane, taking full advantage of her career in fashion to help with the designs --- in order to expose the truth behind a murder for which Spider-Man had been framed. Then in the 2000s, I'd recommend Amazing Spider-Man by J. Michael Straczynski: Ultimate Collection Vols. 1 and 2, which contain a sizable chunk of the first half of his overall run, and some of the best ideas and writing on Spider-Man in a good while, reexamining his origin from a more mystical perspective (however controversial as that was for some fans), reexamining his teenage years by having him become a teacher at his old high school, reexamining his relationship with Aunt May by finally having her find out about her nephew's dual life, and even reexamining his relationship with Mary Jane --- and ultimately, all of those reexaminations made all of those aspects of Spider-Man's life and character even stronger, at least in my opinion.
The spider is always on the hunt.

I would definitely recommend Spider-Man/Human Torch, a 5 issue mini by Dan Slott (his first Spider-Man story) and Ty Templeton that examines the relationship between Spider-Man/Peter and Johnny Storm throughout the years. Each issue takes place during a different era of Spider-Man; the early days, dating Gwen and helping Captain Stacy, post-Gwen's death and the Spider-Mobile, the black suit and dating Felicia Hardy, and working as a teacher married to Mary Jane; and shows how the two grew together despite all the differences. It's wonderfully funny and enjoyable, the art is incredibly appealing that evokes classic Spidey, and filled with great emotional moments as well.

If you like "Kraven's Last Hunt", you might also like its sequel "Soul of the Hunter" which was also done by the same creative team.

If you like looking at beautiful artwork, you might like "Spirits of the Earth".
