When is a Mutant going to run for Mayor or City Council?

for all of the government-based hassles that mutants tend to get, why has nobody decided to run for public office?

All the years that Robert Kelly spent crafting anti-mutant legislation, shouldn't somebody be trying to be a counterpoint to that, even if at the local level?

Xavier never seemed to stress any alternatives to becoming a "mainstream citizen" other than controlling your powers and joining his personal combat squad.

Doesn't surprise that that there's a possible future with a President Pryde. Kitty's always been known for doing speeches.

Kitty's always been politically minded. They showed it in Mekanix and X-Tremendous X-Men as well. They could just reveal her degree was in politics and follow the plot.

That defense doesn't even work in the real world without superpowers. A presidential candidate who doesn't come from the world of finance or corporations? There can always be a scandal linking that candidate to corruption and conflicts of interest thanks to friends, kick-backs, family, etc.
