A community within a community within a community, this is where interested participants log what they read each month so that we can examine each other's selections and discuss them. While there's a whole other thread in this forum for discussing classic comics you've read, the conversations here pertain more to other members inquiring about or commenting on what you are reading (and vice versa). More than anything else though, it's just darn fun to keep track of what you've read for a year and keep tabs on what your fellow classic comics posters are reading as well!
In previous years, the emphasis was placed on how many comics you read. This is still an interesting number to track for a variety of purposes, but the end goal shouldn't be quantity over quality. There are no "winners" in this thread. Heck, I read a lot less than most each year, and I still keep starting the darn thing up again every December
The previous years' book clubs: 2013, 2012.
Guidelines
1) Please reserve 1-3 consecutive posts in this thread where you will continue to update your list. Due to the length limitations of posts on CBR, it may be wise to reserve 2-3 posts. Whenever you read something new, edit your original posts to reflect this change.
2) Do not make additional posts in order to bump the thread. I have pmed Lone Ranger and requested that this thread be stickied after January 1st. Until then, let's not clutter the thread with update notifications.
3) When calculating your total number of comics read for each month, a single comic book is generally considered to be a modern age 20-25 page comic book. Any book of a significantly longer length should be counted as such (i.e. a comic containing 70 pages of CONTENT, not including adds, should be counted as 3 issues).
4) Comic strips may be counted. I generally count 40 standard daily strips as 1 issue, but it's up to you to count them as you see fit. Obviously, Little Nemo's Adventures in Slumberland should be counted differently than Garfield.
5) Several of us counted novels and pulp stories in our lists last year. Whether you see fit to include all novels you read or only those related to the comic book medium is your own choice. I tend to count anywhere from 8 to 15 pages of text as a single comic book issue, depending upon text size and complexity.
6) Since this is more a community of readers than a simple sub-forum, you should feel free to record new comics you are reading as well, but, as a general rule, I suggest making sure more than 50% of your recorded reads fit the board's definition of "classic" comics (more than 2 years old)
7) The common format generally used for tracking your reading has evolved into the example below. I highly recommend it as an easy way of backtracking through your year's worth of reading but, of course, you are welcome to record what you read in whatever way you see fit:
October
Adventures of Superman #444
Conan #83, 84
Epic Illustrated #1-7 (counting them as 4 issues each)
The Price, by Jim Starlin (counting it as 2 issues)
Superman (vol. 1) #165
The Star Wars (George Lucus Draft, 2013) #1-2
Walt Disney's Comics & Stories #230*
*indicates an issue I have read previously
October total: 37
Best stories I read in October: "Life Hutch" (Epic Illustrated #6), "Metamorphosis Odyssey" (from Epic Illustrated #1-9), "Midsummer's Night Dream" (from Epic Illustrated #3), and The Price
Other highlights this month: "Because it's There" (Epic Illustrated #5), "My Room" (from Epic Illustrated #3), "Tomb Stones" (from Epic Illustrated #3), "Worker in the City" (from Epic Illustrated #3)
