So a few weeks ago, people (including myself) were discussing the possibility of Idris Elba playing James Bond, before speculation died down on account of Elba’s age (and the fact that he stated that no-one had ever talked to him about it))
One of the things about the next James Bond not having yet been cast is that people in the UK such as myself will speculate about it endlessly until he actually is cast... and then will speculate about his replacement after the first couple of films in which he appears
Current flavour of the hour is Richard Madden, best known as Robb Stark, who has made a splash for his excellent central performance in the gripping BBC drama The Bodyguard.
Another Scottish Bond, perhaps? Handsome, a talented actor, fairly youthful, and fairly plausible in action scenes? He’d probably be the shortest James Bond... some traditional fans regarded the 5’10” Craig as being far too small for the role (as well as inexcusably blonde), so I shudder to think how they’d react to a 5’9” Madden.
There have been some truly crazy floated possibilities for Bond over his history, including the acting legend Michael Gambon, and perhaps most bizarrely the non-acting fugitive gambling aristocrat and suspected murderer Lord Lucan, who was once offered a screen test by Broccoli.
Are there any other actors, apart from Elba and Madden, who people think might be good in the role?
