    Default Random James Bond casting

So a few weeks ago, people (including myself) were discussing the possibility of Idris Elba playing James Bond, before speculation died down on account of Elba’s age (and the fact that he stated that no-one had ever talked to him about it))

One of the things about the next James Bond not having yet been cast is that people in the UK such as myself will speculate about it endlessly until he actually is cast... and then will speculate about his replacement after the first couple of films in which he appears

Current flavour of the hour is Richard Madden, best known as Robb Stark, who has made a splash for his excellent central performance in the gripping BBC drama The Bodyguard.

Another Scottish Bond, perhaps? Handsome, a talented actor, fairly youthful, and fairly plausible in action scenes? He’d probably be the shortest James Bond... some traditional fans regarded the 5’10” Craig as being far too small for the role (as well as inexcusably blonde), so I shudder to think how they’d react to a 5’9” Madden.

There have been some truly crazy floated possibilities for Bond over his history, including the acting legend Michael Gambon, and perhaps most bizarrely the non-acting fugitive gambling aristocrat and suspected murderer Lord Lucan, who was once offered a screen test by Broccoli.

Are there any other actors, apart from Elba and Madden, who people think might be good in the role?

Cavill's being brought up again. He did audition for Casino Royale years ago.

Maybe John Barrowman or Jason Issacs?

It would be cool to see David Tennant as the new Bond.

Barrowman is looking his age now as is Isaacs IMO but Tennant wouldn't be bad.

I have to admit - and I know quite a lot of people like him because of his performance in Arrow, which I haven't seen - but I never saw Barrowman as a particularly plausible dramatic actor, although he offered good support in the first season of Doctor Who.

Perhaps I'm too influenced by the frequently risible Torchwood series 1, where he would stand around in his long-coat on tall buildings in Cardiff for no apparent reason, like a mysteriously Wales-based Batman.

    He's also far too old.

Jason Isaacs is a tremendous actor and might have been a good choice some years ago, but is in his 50s. He's never going to be Bond, although I'd like to see him in a Bond film.

    Tennant, well, is too thin

I can see why his name would be mentioned - I wouldn't be enthusiastic about the choice, but it's a fairly natural one.

    My choices are as follows:

Irish actor Aiden Turner is one of the favourites at the moment. He's been successful in Poldark, and got tipped as a likely candidate to be Bond after wearing a tuxedo in the Agatha Christie adaptation And Then There Were None...

Irish/German Michael Fassbender was a popular choice after ruthlessly hunting Nazis in X-Men:First Class. Unfortunately he's now probably too old as you want to be within 30 to 40 years of age to start your run playing Bond, imo.

Chilean actor Santiago Cabrera is currently playing genius tech-mogul Darius Tanz in the TV series Salvation, and he sports a flawless English accent having lived and worked in London off-and-on for many years. Like Fassbender, unfortunately he's just turned forty and the new Bond movie hasn't even started filming yet, so his window of opportunity may have passed.

Probably in a minority but no matter who chosen I'd like to see some of that charm and craziness of pre Craig Bond brought back.

The last two Craig films were basically modern takes on the style of the Connery films.

I like Barrowman as an actor, but he's almost too theatrical. It lends himself well to campy or larger than life roles, but I doubt that's the direction they'd want to take Bond in after Craig. Brosnan might have been lighter than Craig, but he's nowhere near Barrowman.

I wish that Damian Lewis was a bit younger...

I want to see one of two things

A period piece in the early 60s with a young, cocky Bond but without the lack of personal sense of endangerment that characterized Moore and Brosnan.

An older Bond approaching 50, world weary and trying to understand his place in the present world, someone with a ton of experience, but much of which seems out of place in the modern reality. I have no problem at all with old Bond if the story supports it.

so is this an all new story?

seems like they set up a more "traditional" Bond dynamic with the most recent movie. I hope it's not about killing him at the end.

    Isn't Barrowman American?

My vote is for Gareth David-Lloyd

I like the idea of a period piece and honestly I was thinking on similar lines myself. I think Bond is becoming increasingly tricky to do, as he moves further from his Cold War roots.

That said, I’d go 50s rather than 60s.

But as said by Hypestyle, I doubt they’ll want to jettison the current supporting cast and set up so soon.
