My favorite version of the Clayface is his BTAS iteration. He's tragic origins and characterization were truly a masterpiece of storytelling.

"So you've come to the end now alive but dead inside."
Matt Hagen is the BTAS Clayface but he's given Basil Karlo's movie backstory but with a tragic touch that makes him sympathetic. This portrayal is then dapted back to Basil Karlo in New 52 and Rebirth which erase the other Clayfaces.
I like the tragic actor angle, but I also wish they keep all the other Clayfaces since I never read about them when they came out and they look pretty interesting.
The pure evil Karlo in the Golden Age is also really creepy as a villain and enjoyable in the vein of a classic villain who's evil without having a sympathetic side.
All in all I like the sympathetic actor angle, but I find Mud Pack cool and classic Karlo cool, so I guess my ideal wish list is to have multiple Clayface with at least one sympathetic villain and one classic villain.
Matt Hagen aka CLAYFACE II returns in World's Finest Comics #264.
To me this his last significant PreCrisis appearance. Reduce to cameos after this and killed off in Crisis #12.

I liked Clayface trying to become a hero.
