    It's B-movie homage day!

15a. The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra (2001)

This is a parody of 1950s B movies, and a pretty amusing one. It features a scientist hero, a tyrannical skeleton, aliens, a mutant monster, and a human/animal hybrid. It's in black and white, shot in the woods and around the famous Bronson cave like so many cheap productions, and features all the stilted-sounded dialogue and bad special effects you could want.

    15b. Q - The Winged Serpent (1982)

And this one is more like a straight B-movie update for 80s audiences, now with cussing and gore. A big, stop-motion monster is flying around eating people, but instead of a sleepy little desert town, it's right in the middle of New York City. It's a charming throwback. David Carradine and Michael Moriarty are both good in it.

I saw Q once on TV when I was a little kid. I may revisit that soon. I didn't even remember that David Carradine was in it.

In the meantime, this is a fun short:

I'll admit, I phoned this one in and watched the Mystery Science Theater version. Though something tells me I didn't miss out on any of the nuance of the film. It's a giant-monster movie made by the British, and the plot cribs from both Godzilla and King Kong. It's also rather similar to Mothra, which came out the same year.

Not to be confused with Reptilicus, which was also made outside of Japan (Denmark), also from 1961, and also covered by MST3K.

9-Zombieland.(2009) A interesting combination of a horror movie with comedy.Basically a original Zombie movie. 6.0
10-From Dusk Till Dawn.(1996). Another combination but this one is more of a Crime/Horror movie. All though the start is waay different that from the insane Vampires movie it changes about halway in the movie it´s over all a great vampires movie.7.0
11-Paranormal Activity 3 (2011) .Slightly better that the previous movie, this movie set in the past of the previous movies,it does have better scary scenes but just as Paranormal Activity 2 it´s moslty boring to watch. 4.5

Third in the Romero Dead series, and a classic in its own right. It's just bad luck that it followed up what is usually considered the best zombie movie of all time, and is as different from that as Dawn was from Night.

Hatchet is a splatterfest homage to 80s slasher movies. The movie is very direct and to the point, once the killer encounters the main party things escalate quickly. Set in the swamps outside New Orleans. I enjoyed this more this time than when I first saw it, probably as I get that the movie isn't trying to reinvent the wheel. There is some decent banter among the characters/victims.

Hatchet II[/I] picks up right where the previous one left off, and aside from a recasting it's almost seemless. Tony Todd, who was just a cameo in the first gets a bigger role in this one. There's a shout-out to fellow modern slasher Leslie Vernon that happened literally moments after I was thinking to myself "it would be cool if they referenced Leslie Vernon". For crossover buffs, that places the Victor Crowley's antics series in a universe where Michael Meyers, Freddy Kruger, and Jason Vorhees are all real. Speaking of Victor, he seems to have leveled up a lot since the previous night.

Danielle Harris stars in this, she played Jamie LLoyd in Halloween IV and V and was in Rob Zombie's Halloween remake (which I've never seen). These movies, however, are more in line with Friday the 13th in terms of tone.

A docudrama-style proto slasher. Definitely an influence on John Carpenter's Halloween. But it's more like half of a blueprint for what Halloween would be, with Black Christmas providing the other half and then Carpenter actually putting the house together in 1978.

I don't know how true to life this version of the story is. There's some rookie cop hijinks that seem very out of place with some of the kill scenes. The ending isn't very satisfying as either a cliffhanger or a wrap-up.

Gorgo at least as a decent monster compared to Reptilicus.
