But let's double down on it: the vaunted inner circle, the boogeyman of the whole season, ended up being undone by an unsecured, secret elevator that whisked one of them up to the top floor to confront a mutant with a long range power who stupidly waltzed up to the guy with the short range power.

It was pretty obvious though that she was failing to shut down Reed's powers. All the time she was screaming, his hands remained energized, and despite that, she kept inching closer. Getting as close to him as she did was suicidally stupid, even disregarding that he was going to explode. The smart course of action would've been to scream, see Reed not fully shutting down, grab a weapon and shoot or beat the crap out of him while he was reeling.

Also, didn't the father of Reid before he died say that his families powers were more robust at getting shut down with some kind of dampener? He used his powers even when they were suppressed did he not?

Oh come on, since when are the earliest manifestation of mutant powers the full extent and expression of said powers? If the expansion of what is possible with his powers is nonsense, then so are all of comics, which I don't think you actually believe.
