What do the lyrics have to do with the show?

Royalties for Gene Roddenberry. And that's about it.

Seriously, the show was already pretty much ready to go, with the lyrics added as an afterthought well after most development had been done because Gene found out about royalties.

This also meant that Roddenberry cut Alexander Courage's own royalties in half.

Wow, that's quite the opposite of Star Trek's utopian ideals

Roddenberry was far less enlightened then what his show became.

Seems so. Although a lot of those ideas came from TNG, long after all of this

After weaving a 55+ year narrative, we often forget that despite the utopian future ST endorses, it's still the product of 20th/21st century conceits and failings. The men behind the curtain have always been greedy, old, white Hollywood executives.

I have Paramount Plus, and am watching all Star Trek shows chronologically. So far, I have watched all four seasons of Star Trek: Enterprise and the first season of Star Trek: Discovery. The first two season of Enterprise were boring, but the third and fourth season were better. The first season of Discovery is on par with the latter two seasons of Enterprise.

It's okay to be wrong sometimes.

Kidding, of course! To each their own.

Tam Elbrun was at least mentioned; I want to say in either a comic or novel...? But never again onscreen to my knowledge.

Never saw or heard from them again in canon. Not sure about non-canon, either, but the mention of Tin Man reminded me of this Titan novel featuring several of the many species able to survive in and travel through space we've seen over the years.
