The Secret of NIMH X The Great Mouse Detective: Oblivion Trigger Something I've been mentally playing with for fun.

O NOES! Justin and Jenny come to Baker St. in search of Basil, because Timothy went missing after stealing Johnathan's old amulet.

After some early investigating, it turns out that some mutations passed along to Timmy by his father allow him to use the amulet in ways his mother couldn't, and that the amulet had been acting strangely for several months prior. And the reason Timmy left? The amulet activated in response to something.

They pick up the trail at a NIMH facility, which has been destroyed down to its foundations in ways Basil can't even begin to understand; entire buildings are deconstructed and their bricks, pillars and panes of glass are left hanging in mid-air. And the scientists that were working there weren't much better off, either. They find records of other facilities that have been hit, and each time the humans arrive quickly to cover things up.

But. A stopover in Langley, Virginia gives them a hint: something called "Subject Phaeton" is behind the destruction, and both Basil and Jenny get the shock of their lives when they uncover an organisation calling themselves the Mice In Black: The MIB, led by Sullivan. Who had been a deep cover agent all the while.

In Basil's head the pieces begin to fall together: Sullivan, the NIMH experiments, and the existence of the MIB. He turns to Sullivan. "Where did the humans find the amulet, and what were they trying to do with it?"

Sullivan's reply? "Dundy County, in 1884. They were trying to make it work."

Jenny chimes in. "What's Phaeton? And what does it have to do with Timothy Brisby?"

"At about the time Timothy stole the amulet, Subject Phaeton changed course. We think he might be trying to lead it somewhere. Now we don't know what it is, only that its incredibly powerful, and incredibly dangerous."

"Where did Phaeton first appear, and when?" Basil asks.

"Aurora, Texas. In 1897" Sullivan replies.

Basil lights his pipe and thinks for a moment. "Dundy and Aurora. What do both of those places have in common?"

For the first time, Sullivan wipes his brow. "****."
