It's too shallow to even enjoy ironically.
No, his run is thoroughly unenjoyable. I can't think of many that are more poorly suited to write Batman than King.
It was always horrible. He cant write Batman. Or anyone in the Batman mythos. Would rather have some 90s lobdell writing the character.
I don't like it either.
He showed potential early, his first year while incredibly flawed had atleast something happening. But ever since WOJAR his run has been trainwreck, there was zero progression, story lines like the one with Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy and Booster were some of the worst ever written in the characters history. Decompression and filler galore and it was all under the pretense of something big coming in 50 and then nothing happened. Now he's hyping up 75 as the second coming, as if the first coming was worth talking about. King needs to tell the stories he actually pitches instead of wasting time building up to the event. Has he even done anything with Bane yet? or is he going to wait till 75 for that plot point to move ahead while he writes pointless and frustrating filler while he's waiting to get to that number?
Every story does not need a PTSD and trauma motif. I know that writers have recurring themes in their stories but I think its high time for King to find some new themes.
I think its high time King stops pretending as if he's an expert in this area because he's not.
King's Batman has been boring. Most issues are kinda forgettable.
Even though I appreciate the insanity of Tom King's Batman, I don't want his writing on a comic as important as the main Batman title, or even worse a universe affecting event such as Heroes in Crisis. I would rather have Tom King write a Black Label book or better yet, have wrote All Star Batman at the start of Rebirth, in contrast to him being handed DC's consistently best selling ongoing.
Such a quality difference to King's Vision book. Not one King Bat book would make my top 40 Bats books unlike his recent predecessors on the book, Morrison and Snyder.
