The only thing they should be is being massively ashamed of not having done MOS2 already and even more ashamed of not making it right now or at the very least have a set in stone plan of making one.

Agreed. MoS was great and I have been waiting on a sequel for years now. Cavill IS Superman. They need to make this happen.
It will probably be years before WB makes another Superman movie and it probably won't be Man of Steel 2. More likely a reboot. So way to early to speculate who will play Superman.
If he must be replaced, Cast Oscar Isaac
It may last a while if they can get their other properties going. Which would be very good and long overdue for all of DC's IPs, but the fact that two out of three of my favorite characters are sitting this out for the time being/maybe indefinitely sucks the fun out of it a great deal for me. It just kills my interest for the most part. Thank God for Diana.
Isaac is taking the year off and will be 40 in March. Don't think Warner Bros. is looking to cast a middle aged guy, no matter how awesome, as Superman any time soon. Plus, Isaac doesn't need or want the part. He's sitting on a bed of money from Star Wars, is one of the most respected actors of his generation and has his pick of any part he wants. Why on Earth would he want to saddle himself with playing one of the most cursed roles in Hollywood?
Whomever ends up taking over for Cavill (if he doesn't come back) will likely be in his twenties or early thirties because Warner Bros. wants to squeeze as many films out of that actor as possible.
And they thought the same thing when they signed 20-something Brandon Routh back in the mid-2000s. Just because Warner Bros. keeps fumbling the ball in regards to Superman doesn't mean they aren't planning on long-term success.
They aren't going to cast a 40 year old actor because they think they're gonna &^%$ it up so badly again they'll need to reboot in another few years.
