Fox's love affair with that character will never make sense to me. Yet another classic story centered around that d list character. Ugh. We knew this was coming, but still...ugh.

Do I even need to put it into spoilers?
While it’s pretty obvious I dunno why they are saying it’s confirmed when there is no official statement on the matter.

It's the actress, not the character.

More like the other franchise she was involved with.

The love affair started before J-Law. But, yes, casting her made it far, far worse.

Mystique is not a D list X-Men character. She's one of their greatest enemies. I easily put her in their top 5 worst enemies category. She's been major trouble for the X-Men every time she's shown up. It made sense for her to be Magneto's right hand lady in the original movie trilogy. It made sense for her to be a big part of Days of Future Past.

Now, making her the childhood friend of Charles Xavier and shoehorning her in as one of the original X-Men in First Class didn't make much sense to me, but it did show how she and Magneto teamed up. I could accept that she and Magneto tried it Xavier's way and then left to become their greatest enemies.

But bringing her back into the X-Men because the studios wanted to capitalize on J-Law's star power is perhaps the biggest sin of Apocalypse and will be one reason why Dark Phoenix won't be so good. I might be wrong, but I'm likely not.

Don’t judge a movie before you see it.
    It might surprise you.

It might. As I said in my post above, I might be wrong.

But the Dark Phoenix story has never been adapted well on TV or in movies. It's usually poorly written or extremely watered down to minimize the impact. And given studio execs general tendency to play things safe, that likely is going to be the case here as well.

Haven't you been posting on how Disney is going to ruin the X-Men franchise? That's judging movies before Disney even owns the rights.

Well isn’t Cassandra Nova a sort of shape-shifter alien that takes other’s DNA to mimic them? This movie does seem to have some heavy Morrison influence. The X-uniforms, Jean’s Phoenix form, Genosha seemly destroyed, and Magneto wanting to kill Jean.

If they wedge Cassandra Nova into this....

Long ago, Troy McClure should've been introducing these movies as the lame attempt at "Look at us make a comic reference in a badly crafted clip show we tried to stretch into a movie plot!"
