Default JOKER v. OSCAR: Dawn of Awards

So, JOKER has snagged a whopping 11 Academy Award nominations this year.

How many, if any, will it win?

    And which ones?

    Poll forthcoming.

Saw a prediction breakdown that I can't find now. I'd guestimate that it could win half the awards, but I'd be surprised if it gets all of them.
Doctor Strange: "You are the right person to replace Logan."
X-23: "I know there are people who disapprove... Guys on the Internet mainly."

I think it might win for Best Actor and maybe for production design (owing to the recreation of 80s NY as Gotham which many people were drawn to) and maybe Best Adapted Screenplay.

Best Picture I think will be 1917 or Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Best Original Screenplay will also be either of those two, and I think Tarantino will definitely win Best Director this time. It's been a long-time coming for a guy who's been so influential for so long, and this movie is good but it's also a good proxy to award him for his overall career.

I feel bad for The Irishman, which will probably win for Best VFX and maybe for costumes and so on. Best Supporting Actor could go to either Pesci or Pacino, but Pitt has been the favorite for Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and Pesci and Pacino have won before.

    It may win for

    Score
    Actor
    Cinematography.

Anyway considering its a comic book, the nomination alone is a win for us.

As for Irishman, amazing that 1917 just stole its thunder. I think 1917 will win for visual effects, Oscars loves their more grounded realistic effects and Dunkirk won the category 2 years ago. A similar movie to 1917.

I think Brad Pitt is a lock for supporting actor.

I don't think Tarentino will win for directing, he lost the DGA and that is the closest indicator for Oscar director win.

I hope it wins best composer, that chick (Hildur something I think?) really nailed that haunting score.

Can't see it winning more than Best Actor if that.

Maybe Best Actor and Best Screenplay, and the latter is dicey. I think the Korean drama Parasite will bushwhack 1917 for Best Picture while Tarantino finally wins Best Director for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Wow Phoenix kept it real. Wonder how the "No such thing as white privilege" fans of Joker would feel about this speech.

Phoenix deserves best actor, he literally holds the movie up singlehandedly. Everything else is a crap shoot

Actor and Score, likely. Possibly Cinematography and Director, but I doubt it.

The Academy all-too-often loves a "wait your turn" style of professional recognition.

See: Al Pacino winning for SCENT OF A WOMAN, when he should have won for THE GODFATHER PART II.

See also: Denzel Washington winning for TRAINING DAY, when he should have won for MALCOLM X.

Phoenix has been nominated for acting Oscars before, right? Then it may in fact be "his turn" now.

FWIW, I see JOKER winning Best Actor, and two other more technical awards like Best Sound or Best Sound Mixing or something.

I'm sticking with 3 wins out of 11 noms for JOKER.
