Finally got around to reading it.
For much of the issue I thought Illyana was OOC. But when she made the spear I realized the premise of this What If was different from what I had been expecting. This version of Illyana never defeated Belasco and became ruler of Limbo. As soon as she discovered her mutant power she was able to use it to escape Limbo, which 616 Illyana was never able to do. As a result, many of the most formative moments of her life never happened. She never saw young Ororo's fight with Belasco, never killed old Ororo and Cat, never created her soul sword, never fought Belasco, and never made the decision to let him live. She basically up and left Limbo at the beginning of issue 3 of the 4-part Magik mini.
This has some interesting implications. It means that the X-Men likely have no idea she's still alive or on earth or aged up. And Cat and Ororo are likely still alive in Limbo. Maybe Ororo will take over as the new ruler there without Belasco.
Smh, they truly saved the best for last. Loved the art, colors, characters, and story. The panels where she is wrecking the trucker are so beautiful, and not because of the action per say but the colors. For as stylistic as this is, those freakin colors of twighlight were so visceral and nostalgic that I stayed on those pages for the longest time.
More interesting than any main X titles thus far.
This was fantastic and made me want a mini of Strange/Magik when he trained her in 616.
I liked how she called out Dr. Strange "why would I trust you when I just told you what I went through"
This was stellar! : D Really, it felt like a pitch-perfect PITCH for an ongoing - yes Marvel, please give us more of this! Leah Williams captures the voices of the characters really well, and weaves an excellent little done-in-one.
However, as some have said, the ending feels a bit... off? As if it really wasn't an ending - more, a beginning. (which I suppose it's meant to be?)
It's happened before, friends... an alternate-universe one-shot which then launches a new book - Spider-girl started out in What if, and Spider-Gwen had a similar beginning.
This was such a great read!

Saw this deviantart page/pic after reading the comic. Marvel needs to know this ASAP!
