But I mean, its not like they had calendars in Limbo <shrug>
It came back to me...I was thinking of a weird issue of Wolverine First Class where Ilyana was a young child visiting her brother at the mention. She didn't speak English and somehow ended up playing in the Danger Room. It didn't make much sense and probably contradicted the backstory of the character.

Ha ha. Ah yes, I remember that. She had little pigtails I think.

Yeah, that really stuck out to me, too. It's been a minute since I read the original run of her in Limbo, but didn't Belasco get one or two soulstones into his brooch before she escaped? If Illyana's got a complete soul for this What If, I really hope they show how her time in Limbo went down differently.

Looks interesting but is there a Leah Williams story where the art is good?

    The cover's good.
So just buy 20 copies, cut off the covers, and glue those over the interior pages.
Cyclops was SO DAMN RIGHT, BABY
Pull list: X-23, Mr. & Mrs. X, Extermination, Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider, Uncanny X-Men
Have been informed that the Black Swans are "only seeking female members, but thank you very much for your time"

I love the art too, takes me back to Sienkiewicz's New Mutants run just a tad.

Can't wait to read this, the cover alone is one of my all time fave Illyanna pieces.

In the 80s the bloodstones just corrupted her soul. So it was all still in her, but changed. The idea that the bloodstones literally take her soul from her body was a retcon from Quest for Magik in 2007.

If you want to say that this should take the retcon into account, then she has the medallion with the 3 bloodstones on her at all times during this period so she has 100% of her soul with her at all times.

I'd hoped we'd get some background on just why she left the X-Men, but it looks like it's jumping straight into her time with Strange. Should be interesting.

Maybe she'll explain why she -- yeah, because Illyana is a chatterbox and often so forthcoming. Never mind. ha ha.

Who knows -- this IS a "WHAT IF" so maybe Illyana IS chatty this time around.

I mean a scene at the schools showing how/why she left, like a sad scene with Colossus or the New Mutants saying mean things to her.

    Amazing!

    And yet...

Feeding the vacuum of trauma with narratives, is hosting a ghost - locks the fire of life in a glass of pilot blue light, whispering with slow asphyxiation. This sort of 'limbo' in an endless corridor is a boat on a river without shores. It robs the individual of breath to speak in the immediate. Her echoing voice is indistinguishable from the many shattering voices of her undead versions of self. None of these versions cease, they pool through one another, they distort and disrupt and endure.

It is the constant wind on a treeless winter landscape. Echoing and seeking. Every bell empty of hammer rife with feverous searing meaning. This horror in symbol (sym) - this synthetic logic. It's a story, a true story and an enduring hero within us. This teller. This survivor of self. The one who doesn't survive outside the capture of a moment, an event - whose absence is a presence, a gapless rift...oh, "what if' is what feeds that narrative that feeds the chasm.

Social anxiety. Panic. Anxiety, telepathy, phenomena, teleportation.

What when the 'if' itself is the demon corruptor. What when the 'if' is also the defiance of corruption, the armor of mercury and smoke...the magik of the dark - shadows that move with and through, shadows only - untouchable.

    Quiet. Wordless panels.

"If" is both the scar and the secret of sorcery.

    It's a comic book one-shot.

In my mind I can see her...collaging...cutting up old back issues, making stories of these given images, humming and talking with herself (herselves) some sort of tune, a melody...a harmony she isn't even aware of. No 'if' - no 'what'... not yet.

But of course I'm looking forward to this comic!
Dead Souls had this one panel of Illyana dressed in borrowed funeral clothes...on a stairway, screaming a silent shout, covering her ears...that was powerful.

What and if are separate questions, different names for one person...pieces of a puzzle that is a shattering splintered and set in layers aside fits asymmetric - shattered glass. A beautifully dangerous surface to enter or escape. A place ever after and eternally riven - set in diamond diaphanous harm.

    Eventually, I do hope, there's a one-shot that's quiet...no narrative...one that doesn't remember...that can't...that can not...and doesn't...and yet, speaks...a new magik...spoken in a new language. Entirely composed of her own presence - incanting only, incantation.
