Can't wait for this I love the art.
Finally. Of course the book I wanted to see the most is the last, lol. I'm glad it looks as good as I had hoped.
One of the reasons this idea is so appealing is that it's so easy to imagine. Fighting for mutant rights is an important part of Illyana's character, but it's also a choice much more than it is for other X-characters. Cyclops fights for mutant rights because he's a mutant. Same for Magneto, Jean, and most other X-Men. Illyana, while a mutant as well, has always been an outsider among her fellow mutants. At first Xavier just ignored her despite her coming back from 7 years in hell, the X-Men were afraid of her, and the New Mutants varied between fear and outright hate. Her biggest concerns, ruling over Limbo, the evil inside of her, and the inevitable return of Belasco, had nothing to do with mutant rights. It would have made perfect sense for her to walk away under those circumstances.
Outright Hatred??? Kinda A streeeeeeeech
I totally see your and think it'd make perfect sense for teenaged kid raised in a hellish dimension, fear of being overwhelmed opt to step away from the numerous battles to stay alive and instead focus on the control and betterment of the nightmare dimension she's intrinsically bound to. BuuuuuuutShe has no one in Limbo the people she cares about the most Colossus and Kitty are mutants so she'd be greatly concerned about their standard of living
Yes.
Magik's role in the 'fight' and/or politics of mutant rights is much like that of 'the artist' in an age of war or social strife. Her personal expression IS political but resoundingly personal and unconfined - refusing to be bound by the beauracracy externally imposed by state militant autocratic controls. She is her own controller.
Magic is an artistic expression. Magik is an artist. A mystic.
In many ways the precedence of mutant powers continuously being weaponized is problematic for me. llyana's outsider individuality is essential and earned.
Today more than ever, this vulnerability and flexibility - this moving between sides - this self awareness - this heroic embodiment of a limbo manifest in form as inter-being (not in not out, not good not bad) the boat and the river ferrying impossible rifts, flooding and filling and providing depths of distance in horizons and beyonds...
This: MagiK is of UPMOST IMPORTANCE!

― Miguel de Cervantes Don Quixote
I'm not a fan of Andrade's art but this looks so good.
This was fantastic! I loved the interaction between Strange & Illyana. Soul Staff!!
We need more magic based books from Marvel, and I hope this opens the door to Magik finally getting a solo...once her whole techno-virus infection story is finished...
This was really good. I don't usually care for AU stories, but this was an interesting story that remained true to the character of Magik. Loved Dr. Strange's voice in this. And the art was expressive, dynamic, and a great fit for the tone of the book.
My only nitpick is that I would have liked to see why Yana fled from the X-Men and her family.
Wonderful What If despite the fact that the scenario on the cover is never actually explored... since Magik never actually becomes Sorcerer Supreme in the book. She masters her magic and herself, and is on the way to possibly becoming the next Sorcerer Supreme. Still a great character piece with good action.
I loved the dialogue.
Illyana's trauma and self-hate are painful to witness. Belasco's pedo 'love' remains disgusting, and he deserved what he got.
The art grew on me. It worked for the book.
That Soul Staff looks awesome.
Looks like the X-Men completely failed Illyana in the 616, and Dr. Strange is where she should have been taken immediately for mystic training and psychological counseling.
This was a perfect Halloween read.
Favourite panels...

I want more of this, either in the main continuity or as it's own book.
Andrade the work he put in to all of those amazing back drops were great and Jeff Dekal's cover needs to be released as a poster ASAP.
So.. Explain to me why I had to deal with a whole year of Guggenheim and Bunn when Leah Williams is waiting on deck and brimming with ridiculously great ideas and an actual interest in capturing the characters she's writings voices and history?
Why is she not the person next in line to serve as the franchise's shepherd?
I really loved this one. I wish they would do a series.
Wasn't a fan of Emma Black, but I thought this was great.
