I agree that its probably just not possible. There has been so many roster changes and members its hard to capture that same "fresh" sorta feeling.

Hickman's Avengers, with its much bigger cast and scope of stories shook things up in a different sorta way.
As did Bendis' Dark Avengers but that was a short term thing.

I think you need to look beyond the roster to really shake things up now.

Yeah! It looks like they'll have to recruit characters and super-beings from alternate realities (LOL):

I always liked the idea that Kurt Busiek had, of having the Avengers gradually mostly replaced by new heroes, and then revealing that all the new heroes were members of the Masters of Evil in disguise. Now that would have been a shake-up.

But even that couldn't be used now, because, of course, Busiek used it for Thunderbolts. Even an all-villain team of Avengers would not surprise anyone after Thunderbolts and Dark Avengers.

Avengers made of villains but they do good for the villain community!

A "hero" foiling some poor dude trying to make a buck? Not on the Villain avengers watch!

The Avengers are simply not in their own little bubble, but a rallying point for all of Marvel.
Yeah, the only thing that could possibly come close is a line wide reboot with all entirely new characters.

It's at the point now where you'd have reboot the entire Marvel Line also to really reboot the Avengers.

Well it reminds me how much odd i felt seeing Thanos to be an Avenger on Cates run , that sorta of scope they have to show to shake up the Avengers.

The thing is Marvel's plethora of heroes vs heroes comic events after Civil War has created so much variance of including so many characters in Avenger comics that it somehow dampened the taste of reading this type of comics , and mostly this things happened due to Bendis after 2010s .

Now and then i fear, they would even make a team that will be equivalent to X-Avengers teams with majority of the roster would be all mutants to shake things up more .

I think only Hickman made a few real good choices of giving a variance to a team and his scope of stories had made possible to make a good Avenger story .

I’m not sure it’s viable now, and I gave up on the Ultimate universe with Ultimatum, but bringing Millar’s Ultimates to the 616 could have been a big thing at one point.

I dunno. Could always go the Young Heroes in Love route. Instead of the old boys club of the Illuminati collecting an Infinity Watch, maybe the scientists get creative with all the weapons available to the forces of Good. Build a 21st century roster of heroic bisexual specialists. Instead of a few romantic pairs, have a metric f*ckton of sexual tensions.

Reed Richards hybrids a Klyntar symbiote with a transmode virus, and bonds it to Hercules.
Doctor Strange binds Zarathos to Valkyrie.
Noh-Varr is given Silver SurferÂ’s board and the power of Captain Universe.
Tony retro engineers a Captain Britain uniform to create armor for Iron Manifold.
Rachel Summers is recruited as the only stable avatar of the Phoenix.

    This list needs more women.

I think it would take some serious X-characters to really have that 'I can't believe this is happening!!!' kind of shakeup again. They even tried it with Uncanny Avengers... but Havok isn't that big a name and Rogue was the only real surprise. Wolverine and Scarlet Witch were already avengers...

But if you had a team shakeup with Colossus and Nightcrawler and maybe Storm or Cyclops mixed in with Captain America, Iron Man and Thor... that would be something. Not C-listers who have trouble getting a spot on a team... but actual legitimate fan draws, ala Wolverine back when. Everyone else either is, was, or is assumed to have been an avenger already.

even after NA you had Pym's Mighty Avengers with and Hickman's super team and the unity team, not a lot of more place to go.

    Villans has been done
    All female has been done

Avenger Legacy Comprise a team of legacy characters from established Avengers, Nadia, Cassie, Hawkeye, Kate, Miles, and the like. but in a way Champions is already that team.

Bring back that organization that Pym's team was a part of and form an international Avengers? But I don't think that would sell.

I'd be all for a New Avengers led by Wasp and/or Spectrum. Pick a couple mainstream characters to pull readers in (Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver perhaps), and from there build the remainder of the roster with some unexpected picks. Imagine Silk, Spider-Man 2099, Venom, Rocket Raccoon, Moonstone, Colossus, Shocker and/or Lightning on the Avengers. Despite a large portion of the MU having been one of the Avengers at some point, there are still many who haven't. It depends on the creative team of course, but even the most eclectic combination of characters could work.

Base them in Avengers Mansion now that the A-listers are living in a renovated Celestial corpse. Tackle some of the smaller scale threats (Count Nefaria, the Maggia, Squadron Sinister etc.) while Jason Aaron's Avengers take on the bigger threats.

Pepe Larraz and/or Russell Dauterman on art. Jonathan Hickman or Jim Zub on writing duties. It'd be a godsend
