It's understood that Shankar has an uneven record, but this gives me hope for his interpretation:
And kudos to Hank Azaria for delving more into this whole conversation in response to Hari Kondabolu. Apu's problematic but Azaria seems like a stand up guy who was very willing to listen to these criticisms to heart. It was Shankar’s intention to crowdsource a script that “in a clever way subverts him, pivots him, writes him out, or evolves him in a way that takes a creation that was the byproduct of a predominately Harvard-educated white male writers’ room and transforms it into a fresh, funny and realistic portrayal of Indians in America.”
This things always turn out like this.
"This thing sucks, stop it. PS,hire me to fix it. Oh you are not going to hire me me, you coward?"
Hopefully apu isn't gone and this is just another tactic to try and get hired.
I agree with Lisa in the episode that addressed the criticism.
I'm confused.
Wow! Didn't expect this.

Truth is the Simpsons is a 29 year old show still on the air and hasn't changed all the characters are "Problematic" because every character is a extreme caricatures of stereotypes.
simpsons gonna last for another 20 seasons
The J-man
The simpsons should be removed from the simpsons, maybe it would be a watchable show again that way.
You just reminded me, I have not been using the cletus clips on rotation as a response to conservatives I want to make fun of.

The simpsons has been stagnant for years. Apu was iirc actually fairly groundbreaking for the time considering Indian-Americans were mostly ignored but he was still a stereotype. Now time has moved on and he's become a caricature
