Only because you can't see past the logistics of the story that was told, and only because you're roadblocking the potential narrative threads of MJ and Aunt May due to your own opinion it'd be a wrong fit, when others with more of an imagination can conjure up scenarios for both

Hell, the Anna Maria thing would STILL have worked just fine even if it was a platonic friendship.

I like the idea of having "Superior" Spider-Man get revealed as some sort of imposter by his chosen romantic interest.

Well given how Slott treated MJ, I'd have to say that Superior arc would have had to be written by someone else with MJ involved. Its not as simple as having MJ in the story when she was barely used in Slott's run.

Slott did feature MJ more in stories in which Peter and she were married.
