Looking for obscure graphic novel from late 80's to early 90's

The premise was that early heroes were easy to defeat because villains could figure out how to defeat them just by listening to their names-for example, if you knew The Fantastic Fireboy was coming, you would know to bring a fire extinguisher. The following group of heroes counteracted this by have more generic names and changed their costumes a lot so that the bad guys wouldn't recognize them from afar and be able to prep.
Does anyone recognize this graphic novel?

Did you just hear this was the premise of this mystery title/graphic novel?

If not and you actually read it, do you recall any specifics about the title that might ring a bell for folks who come across this thread?

I am asking for a friend. He thinks that:
1) It was in the format of an old fashioned Marvel Graphic Novel from the '80s, so it was bigger physically than a normal comic book sized graphic novel.

2) The publishers never did much else. They published one or two graphic novels, and maybe a few comics and that's it.
