Yeah, going off of some advanced screenings people on social media have seen it's an enjoyable movie. Good to know, but happy to see that it isn't just nostalgia coloring the views of people.
Continuity, even in a "shared" comics universe is often insignificant if not largely detrimental to the quality of a comic.

Back from seeing it earlier today with my friend. Was worried that I was too willing to eat up corporate nostalgia, but I did indeed have an enjoyable time at the movie. It's not going to be winning any awards for plot complexity, but it did a good job in portraying the world as a believable film setting. With that being said, I think you'll probably get the most out of it if you have or had some affinity for the franchise. It's neat seeing your favourite childhood monsters up on the big screen in a film that actually tried to make as much work as it possibly could.

Well the goo news is I recognised 89% of the Pokemon in this movie....and it tapped into aspects of the lore I wasn't expecting (including referring to a passage of time for a specific incident), Bill Nighy is great, perfect casting and he really comes to life near the end. Climax is pure Saturday morning also. I don't think it'll crush anyone at the box office and the plot and acting are outright basic, but it's got a lot of charm. A 7/10 for me.

The whole family saw it on Friday.

My children are all Pokemon addicts and my wife & I are ambivalent to it.

Holy cow, it looked great and was really good! I would give it an A and would love to see more Pokemon movies if they're like that. Not a light-hearted, hard-boiled detective movie but something created with love.

I think the only other Pokemon anything I've watched with my kids that I enjoyed was the recent Power of Us anime.
