Thanks all, it's wonderful to win this one, considering it's a tribute to The Man. And with a Kirby cover no less.

I'll come up with a new contest later today.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

    Congratulations, Kirby101!

Seriously, though, the cover was different in that is wasn't as honoring as many of the others. It was early enough in Stan's career that even though we appreciated his role in Marvel, he hadn't yet achieved God-like status. And let's be honest, if anyone could truly treat Stan as an equal, it was Jack Kirby.

And what has the captain learned this week? He has seen many appearances of Stan on many Marvel covers. Stan was the face of Marvel Comics and I doubt many of us would be here or otherwise involved in the hobby if it wasn't for him. Thank you, Stan, for a big part of my life.
He was a big part of my childhood too. I thank Stan for writing the stories and my Dad for buying us kids our comics every month (plus a Creepy mag or Famous Monsters) We didn't have cable back then but we had the Marvel Universe at our fingertips. I always thought Stan would live to be 100 but The One Above All had other plans for him.

BTW, I almost voted for your entry. I don't know if he was the first to break the fourth wall by showing how he and Jack Kirby got a visit from their greatest villain and calling Reed about having a story conference. But he and Jack certainly lead the way in innovations in storytelling in the comic book industry. Stan also was one of the first to give the creative team a credits box on the first page of each comic.

Apologies if it's out of place -- seemed fitting.
