Default Soundtracks: Favorite music from motion pictures?

I'm more talking along the lines of music officially made for films as opposed to movie soundtracks that include already popular songs. Ok I was going to post this in the embarrassing music thread, don't laugh but decided since I love movie music so much I'd start a thread with it. This thread is for both instrumental and those with lyrics.

Ok, here goes this song has such a magical quality to it just like the subject it was written for. America did a good job with this. Relaxing too...

I'm not embarrassed at all its beautiful DAMMIT! !

The only album my father had that I wanted to (and did) steal. It may have been his only album, who knows? But this was extraordinary music.

This feels like cheating, but the best original soundtrack I've listened to in years would probably be "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping." It very much is a The Lonely Island album, but is one of the funniest things I've ever listened to. Why that movie failed I'll never know.

    The best:
Star Wars (the entirety of "A New Hope" & the Imperial March from "Empire Strikes Back")
    Superman Theme

And then in no particular order:
    Purple Rain soundtrack (entirety)
    Shaft's Theme
    Saturday Night Fever (entirety)
    Pretty in Pink soundtrack (entirety)
    Kenny Loggins - "Footloose"
Kenny Loggins - "I'm Alright" (Caddyshack; I dare you to listen and not do the gopher dance)
Kenny Loggins - "Danger Zone" (imo, the only good thing about that movie)
Whitney Houston - "I'll Always Love You"
The Big Chill soundtrack (it's basically just a boomer greatest hits, but great collection)
    Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour (entirety)
Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack (entirety)

I was going to include this myself but you beat me to it. This soundtrack always made me tear up as a kid. Very emotional.

I was going to add these as well later. Good choices.

A lot of good ones! Ok, don't take this personally but I was enjoying all these really good themes and then suddenly here comes David Hasselhoff. I just burst out laughing. I wasn't expecting it. Wizard of Oz and Neverending Story makes you dream of magical places, Philidelphia hurts your soul and the Indiana Jones theme makes you want to go on an adventure.

More James Horner. The composer of "Cocoon " as well.

Star Trek: The Search for Spock. Iconic.

Thanks (I can't only say thanks, the system won't let me write a message with less than 10 caracters).

Tarantino movies all have great soundtracks, but that's not what the op asked for exactly.
Tarantino, except for his last one I think, he uses musics from his own collection.
The op asked for "music officially made for films".

Always loved the opening of Hero. The erhu instrument opening is just so stirring and melodic. Contrast that with the taiko drums and heavy percussion, and this makes for a very meaningful song. A lot of the other tracks are variations on the opening really.
