Default What is your Image comic book run of the year?

as of right now.... can be a current or completed run

(It doesn't have to be a run that started in 2018, necessary but if you are judging a run that started before 2018, make sure you are basing your answers on the quality of the 2018 issues of that run)

I am starting a little series of questions on the 4 forums (Marvel, DC, Image, Indepedent)

Descender ended wonderfully. Very excited for Ascender.

For me, Death or Glory wins it for 2018.

Still loving Black Science, East of West, and Low.

Die is going to be one of my picks for 2019. Ascender is getting me excited as well.

Kill or be Killed for sure! Brubaker is my favorite writer and what he did with Sean Phillips on this book is incredible.

I'm gonna cheat and pick two which launched this year, if that's ok!

Prism Stalker is bar none my favourite comic that's launched this year. Occupying a space somewhere between body horror and Alien-esque sci-fi, but with a decidedly acidic colour palette. Prism Stalker feels cool, refreshing, and it's immediately engaging from the first two issues onwards. Weird alien designs, worlds with stalagmites and warping realities but none of the typical grandeur. Characters hate their existence or are complacent in what amounts to basically slavery. Really hoping this comes back for a second story arc.

Isola is probably the one I had been most anticipating for a couple of years now, ever since it was announced. If I'm 100% honest with myself, it still hasn't quite grabbed me despite completing a five-issue arc this year. That's mostly just story and characters though, the world they're building is pretty fascinating, and the art style is super clean yet detailed. If you're into fantasy, this is a must to try out. They recommend it for Miyazaki fans themselves, but I'd say it's maybe closer to Saga if you strip the sci-fi away.

Honourable mention: Snotgirl from 2016 never really went in the happy-go-lucky direction I was hoping it would. Instead it's rather dramatic with seemingly weirdly high stakes for how serious the characters take it. That said, Snotgirl is a fun series that continues to stand out from anything the North American comics market has been producing the last few years.

Yes, I'd forgotten Snotgirl, but it's one of my favourite Image titles too.

Might be a cheat, because only the last issue came out in 2018, but Black Monday Murders?

Um... Kill or Be Killed, possibly. Black Science and Deadly Class do give it a run for its money, though.

East of West, both before the beginning of 2018 and during it. Sad that it will be wrapping up soon.

I love Monstress but I feel like I haven't read any this year. I'm still waiting to get the third trade and it feels like I read the second one over a year ago.
