Substandard writing tbh. It wouldn't be an issue if this were a group of weaker or inexperienced mutants/X-Men but between Storm and Polaris they should be able to devise a counterattack to effectively neutralize this Maddrox army. It's pathetic that Maddrox, no matter how many duplicates he's amassed, even poses a threat and it's strange that you have two incredibly strong mutants being astronomically nerfed in order to faciliate this story. They shouldn't be so easily "overwhelmed" like novices.
If people think that an endless army of clones with superpowers isn't enough to pose a threat to a group of like 5 characters, and they should be immediately dispatched with, it is a red flag, a blood-soaked crimson-dyed flag that is on fire, that your protagonists are too powerful.
A million robot tigers with rabies who shoot lasers vs Storm
"Well, 'Ro should be able to just fly up, say goddess three times, and fry them all with lightning bolts."

Storm can gently knock out crowds of people. With Psylocke and Polaris on hand too(they can also knock out groups of people and/or do containment forcefields), this Madri plot point is incredibly silly.
Let the flames destroy all but that which is pure and true!
Maddrox is small fry and the fact that Storm et al are getting clobbered just exemplifies a gross misunderstanding of her team's capabilities and character proficiencies on part of the writers. These are five characters with extensive combat expertise and experience between them and it's a misrepresentation of their powers and strength that a bunch of arbitrarily powered clones are getting the drop on them so easily.
You can't take the story or the fabricated and poorly explained stakes seriously when the characters are operating as if it's their first day on the job IMO.
See, editors shouldn't approve stuff like this, because now it's hard to believe that a major superhero in a comic book can't spend some time just fighting some dudes, when just fighting dudes is action/adventure bread and butter. At least Thor would have to reveal his presence with a light show before doing stuff like this. But when a lead character can just stealthily sweep a group to the point that readers can't believe that a literal infinite army can't oppose them for a while, there is something fundamentally broken about the character.
Multiple Man has extensive combat expertise and with the way his powers work he has way more experience than that whole team combine. What a lot of people here are unaware of, ignoring, or being willfully ignorant of is that Multiple Man sent out dupes all over the world. Some of which for years at a time, just to gain knowledge and skills. He has lived more lives and probably knows more stuff then any member of that can even hope to gain. But on top of all that there are THOUSANDS of him in that field with super powers no less.
If anything Multiple Man is currently the OP one currently in the book. If he didn't have such a head start with the dupes being in play things might run differently but that is not the case.

Le the characters fail, jeez.
There is no reason a B-Level telekinetic shouldn't just crush all the enemies' heads at once in every issue, but we have to have comics.
Found this looking for that page in X-Factor where Jamie talks about the knowledge and skills he has gained.
Telekinesis creates more dupes.

We've seen in the real world "crowds on demand" companies where you can pay to have a crowd protest political opponents or rival business competitors (there's a big lawsuit going on right now in the US because a businessman's private home was surrounded by protesters allegedly hired by his competitor). So in my opinion, it's actually very realistic to see anti-mutant protesters pop up out of nowhere wherever the X-men show up. Could be an interesting plot point.
