Another Legion one - my guess is 1983 right before Giffen changed his art style.

I loved that ad--which appeared in the first DC SAMPLER (November 1983)--because it used the logos for so many different DC titles (and one Quality)--many of them defunct by that time. Quite clever and reminiscent of the cover for SUPERBOY AND THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES No. 236 (on sale November 1977).

I never made that connection with the cover of 236. But Levitz was always using past covers for inspiration. Thanks, Jim Kelly.

This was the first DC subscription page I ever filled out!

I saved up several weeks worth of allowance, convinced my mom to take me to the post office to buy a money order, then dropped this bad boy in the mail! A whopping 3 months later, Aquaman #11 showed up at my door... and the series was canceled with #13.

It's interesting that Sandman ended up something quite different than what it was originally marketed as.

I don't know if it's his lettering, but that Sandman ad is making my Todd Klein senses tingle.

This house ad had Captain Marvel Jr. on the cover perched on the back of the sleigh. However he's not on the final cover. When the page count for treasuries was reduced from 84 tp 68 pages, his story was dropped before publication.

I ordered that comic through the mail using the ad, but I guess I never looked closely because I had no idea that I'd been cheated out of a Captain Marvel Jr. story. I wonder if it's too late to ask for compensation.

Some more happy holiday house ads:

"The TT's Swingin' Christmas Carol," TEEN TITANS 13 (January-February 1968), on sale November 16, 1967

    Super-Star Holiday Special--DC SPECIAL SERIES (Spring 1980), on sale December 6, 1979

    CHRISTMAS WITH THE SUPER-HEROES 2 (1989), on sale October 24, 1989

The revised Crisis logo looks so much better that original one while interesting what they were going with just feels too 70's with that curved font that looks more suited for a pharmacy storefront.
